I am aware that there are many posts on this subject, but I was unable to find satisfactory answers for my stage in the application process. I received and accepted an appointment to USAFA in mid-February. Today, I received a traffic citation for following too closely with a fine of about 250 dollars attached, for which I take full responsibility. Given that I have already accepted the appointment and given permission for a background check, is it should I report the citation to USAFA regardless? If so, is it likely that my appointment will be repealed?

Your appointment won’t be repealed. If you keep getting tickets? Then maybe. But I highly doubt it at this point. If you were my child I would advise you to email your admissions counselor and let them know. Also, I would report that you received a ticket for following too closely. And then provide any additional info they request (if any). I highly suspect they won’t.

And back off. Tailgaters are annoying 😂!!

I would not chance anything, hire a traffic attorney and they can get it knocked down to a parking ticket (hopefully)!

Good luck!

If your state offers driving school to keep a traffic ticket off your record go with that. Also don't forget to add your information to the USAFA 2024 Appointment Thread. Congrats!

My son got a ticket after accepting his appointment to West Point. He emailed his RC and never heard back. It was a non-issue.

He paid a reduced fine by taking some online course. He went 6 months ticket free and the ticket was expunged.

There are TONS of threads debating this. One can read for hours. It turns into a debate about ethics. If one is asked "have you ever...", how can you say NO if it was 'removed' through traffic courts? You got it, the answer is yes. The bottom line, is you have to feel comfortable with yourself. Also, you won't be dismissed for this one occurrence. imo.
