long time reader...first time poster. My DD has received an appointment to the USNA. She received the ticket the day she received her BFE in the mail. She will be going to traffic school and the ticket should be changed to a lesser charge. Do we tell the Academy now or wait until after she goes to school and we get the final disposition of the ticket. Thanks

I'm not sure the correct answer. All I can say is that after my son got his BFE he called his BGO and told the bgo of the BFE. The Blue and Gold Officer told my son if there was any trouble from that day until iday (ie a ticket) to call him. I dont know if that is SOP but you can always have your DD call her Blue and Gold Officer and ask. BTW DS got a speeding ticket prior to the BFE and he reported it. Non-issue.

If the ticket does not involve DWI/DUI or "reckless driving," it's unlikely to be an issue. Read all of the PTR documents carefully and, if the issue is reportable, report it.

+1 to Vista. Can't hurt to call the BGO who should know the right thing to do here, if anything.

Why is it important to report a traffic ticket one gets long after the application is submitted? Is it written in some instruction to do so?

in the BFE for the background check it has a question about traffic tickets. She got the ticket for speeding and reckless driving but it is her first ticket and she can go to traffic school so I don't know what the final charge will be. Do we wait until after the school which is in a couple of weeks or tell the BGO now?

It doesn't matter what the final charge is. They want to know the original charge. Nevertheless, explain the traffic school etc. to the BGO.

Will do. Thanks. We are glad that she got the ticket. Wasn't paying as much attention to her driving as she should have been. Glad she got caught before something terrible happened. Good life lesson.
