Training for Beast

For those of you doing the West Point pushup/sit up schedule to prepare, are the numbers they give the amount of time you are supposed to do them for, or the actual number of pushups and sit ups you are supposed to do? I read on the instructions about the work interval and rest interval, but the actual chart is kind of confusing.
 
I've been using it as a timed interval (increasing the work period by 5 seconds every week), but I've been counting how many i get in each set and trying to get more in each set from Tuesday to Thursday to Saturday (when I do my push up work out)
 
Thanks for your help laxman, track has kept me in pretty good shape but ill keep in shape throughout the summer, how far should we be able to run in boots if that far at all?

Just make sure your boots are broken in and it won't matter too much. To break your boots in real good, wear them in the shower multiple times. Wear them often.

The chart says, for example: PU1: 25/15. Does that mean 25 seconds of push-up 1 with a 15 second rest interval? Elsewhere it says allow 20-30 seconds between sets. What is considered a set?
 
I know what you mean, they seem to say something different things through out the mailing.

I think your right that the workout at the bottom is suggesting 25 seconds of push up 1 followed by 15 seconds of rest. I'm pretty sure that's what they mean by a "set". and ya, after set 1, you would move on to set 2 with 25 seconds of elevated push-ups followed by another 15 seconds of rest.

I think the sample workout they give at the bottom is to start off slightly easier and build up. I've been using the table on page 3 and have just increased the work period after a couple days. It's been doing the trick.
