I have already began training for BEAST but was wondering if anyone had recommendations/tips for what to do for about a week or at least the last few days before BEAST begins. I know the APFT is taken on the first or second day of CBT and I always have one full rest day before any physical test, but am looking for some more insight (e.g. Only running for the last week before r-day, only swimming, 3 runs for that week, etc). Any advice would be much-appreciated :) CLASS OF 2021 HUAH

Light jogs (2-3 miles), lots of stretching, hydrate (seriously) and some push ups, sits up and pull ups. Don't kill your self, but don't stop all together. Get your body moving, heart rate up but go in rested and hydrated.

Thank you!! I'll keep all of the above in mind

Yes, eat all your favorite foods. Sleep. As you get closer to R Day you will get nervous and won't sleep much the night before. Also the night of R Day most brand new Cadets lay in bed wondering what they heck they did. So sleep in your comfortable bed, eat a bunch of your favorite food, wear your favorite clothes, play video games, see your friends and family.

Drink lots of water. stay hidrated and stretch. The rule is to never workout 48hrs prior to any physical test. Just make sure you're preparing by running and doing pushups and situps. That being said, every cadet at WP will tell you that you should spend time with your loved ones and friends in your home town. do all of your favorite hobbies without hurting yourself if they're extreme, and jsut enjoy your time home.

Thank you for your comment! I'll definitely keep this in mind.

Enjoy your last week prior to the Academy. As long as you are in "decent" shape, you'll have no issue with any physical requirements of Beast.

For the record, I'm not advocating you not working prior to this summer, but you'll be in great shape if you can pass the APFT before you arrive. Chances are you'll excel 6 weeks after R-Day with the physical regimen you'll be going through.

Run, run, run - the hills (read mountains) are brutal

Current Plebe here - don't worry. Seriously. You have a great chance of failing your first APFT, not because you're not good enough, but because you're so stressed out and haven't learned how to deal with that yet. The physical regimen during Beast is fairly weak, so be prepared to do workouts in your room before bed if you want to stay in decent shape. The only APFT that matters during Beast is the one at the end - train for that, not the one at the beginning.

Just eat good food and try to have fun. Don't be stupid (or you may end up breaking your elbow a month before R-Day like I did...) and keep yourself focused. Don't wanna make one stupid mistake and ruin this opportunity.

You broke your elbow a month before R-Day? How did that resolve itself?

This is exactly what my son said after Beast. He was actually disappointed that they didn't do as much running as expected. If you are a real fit kid, like most are, that wont be as big an issue as you think. Or at least my kid didn't think so.

Concentrate on spending as much quality time with your family and friends! Be appreciative and be as supportive of them as they are of you. You will never know how proud they are of you! You are already prepped for beast, prep for being separated from your family and for your family to be seperated from you. Oh yeah, and one more note...enjoy the journey! Congrats!

Stayed off of it for a couple of weeks, and let it heal itself. The body is truly resilient, you just have to be patient. You'll learn that during Beast, too.
