Hello,

I’ll try to keep this as brief as possible: I am currently a Sophomore at a Private STEM University in the Southeast U.S. (MS-2 on a national 3 year AROTC Scholarship) majoring in a Business-Related degree. My current college’s Army ROTC Battalion is in 6th Brigade. I am considering transferring to a University in the Northeast U.S. The University that I am looking at is in 2nd Brigade and is also Private.

I want to transfer for a number of reasons. Mainly because it has a better degree program that I’m currently pursuing. As much as I love my current Battalion and comrades/friends, I feel that the college I’m at is not the right fit anymore. I came originally as a CS major but since switched after first semester of freshman year b/c I couldn’t handle the coding. Lots of other factors were considered and am not going to state them here as it is unnecessary.

I’ve read some individual forums regarding transferring and I found some similar posts. I also saw something that Private Universities (like my current college) have the incentive to pay for room and board if you’re on scholarship. I don’t know if the University I’d be applying to has that same incentive, but I will find out within a phone call.

My conflict is this: should I contact the other University’s Army ROTC Cadre/Staff regarding me transferring or should I talk to my current cadre? I don’t want my cadre to start hating on me or anything. What I have done so far is contacted the other University’s transfer student desk and asked for more in-depth help regarding if all my credits in my current degree plan will transfer. I hope to get an answer on that soon.

My other conflict is that if I transfer, then I may not be able to do summer training at Fort Knox or West Point if selected. I am, however, willing to give that up for me to be happier at where I attend college.

I'm sure there's a lot of Admin approval and paperwork that needs to be done in order to fulfill my transfer request. Don't know if I'll be accepted or rejected but I hope everything will go as planned.

Thank you all for your help and advice.
