How does the whole transfer process usually work from NAPS to the academy? For example, for a prior enlisted if I only have a certain number of leave days saved up, what would happen when those leave days are used up?

Once you report in to USNA, and you transition from your NAPS status to that of a midshipman, no real leave gets accrued during your 4 years as a mid. You get Thanksgiving, winter and spring breaks in leave status, as well as summer leave periods and some inter-sessional leave days (in between exam end and time to be back at USNA in late spring for either pre-Comm Week activities or start of Block Zero summer schedule. You just...get leave, magically, and there is no counting of it. Once you graduate, and starting from your commissioning date, you once again start accruing leave at the regular monthly rate. USNA grads are also typically given 60 days of "basket leave," again, not counted officially on an LES. Some take less because they are starting TBS, flight school or other pipelines a few weeks after graduation.

At NAPS, I assume you just...get leave during breaks. Nothing official on an LES. What I don't know is if you are able to carry over any leave days from enlisted time to some years later after commissioning - I suspect not. Let's hope some current prior enlisted at USNA or NAPS Post, because this can't be a new issue.

Basket leave is 60 days now????? That would of been nice!

I think it's toggled between 30 and 60 over the years I have watched. I have 60 stuck in my brain, but I haven't checked it with our firstie sponsor mids since they scattered. I am sure someone will pipe up.

Thanks! And what about the time between NAPS and USNA? From graduation from NAPS and I-Day at USNA is about a month and a half from what I'm gathering. What if you only have half that amount of leave days left from NAPS? What will happen then, will you stay at NAPS until I-Day at the academy?

Over half of the Marine Selects this year won't even get 2 weeks....

While that's more than usual, that's not uncommon. They've shifted the date/names of the different companies but normally the June TBS class takes a chunk of Academy guys so they aren't all in the same class.

I have a question though based of this. I'm a prior that's going to naps. I'd rate my good cookie July 2018. Would I still get it?

Depends on date. If you are going NAPS this year and report to USNA in July 2018 it would depend on date. Since I Day is very early in July unless your date for award is before that you won't get it. You will technically be discharged and become a Midshipmen when you go to USNA. You can double check with admin at NAPS on that.

I'm not a ribbon chaser but that would suck lol, and I will. I think it's July 20th so I don't think I'll get it.

Having anything more than a NDSM and your shooting ribbons will make you stand out as a Mid very quickly.
