I don't plan on transferring but what is it like for transfer students? Do some of their credits count and they just start as a plebe and do the four years at the academy ? or do none of their credits count ?

Just curious .

There is no "transferring" to the Academy. A college student goes through the same nomination-appointment process as everybody else. During Plebe Summer they can validate any Academy courses similar to the ones they took in a civilian school----it's like taking the final exam again--and if they get the required grade, they do not have to take the course. This is mostly done for core courses like math, chem, physics. The civilian credits therefore are not accepted.

I'm not sure where exactly the person above got his information from, but my roommate at the academy right now went to UCLA for a year before coming to the academy. He wasn't able to validate classes just based off of credit alone but he was able to talk to his academic advisor and show him his transcript from UCLA and based off his grades there, he got to validate 3 classes without taking any sort of extra test.

Well, the person got it from his personal experience. I went to 2 years of college (in engineering) and zip, zero, nada credits would be transferred and I had to validate everything with a 2 hour test for each course. Great fun during a hot, sticky Plebe Summer. However, unless your roommate was some sort of exception, the Academy now handles things differently and I stand corrected.

It varies based on the course. Many of the more standard classes like calculus, physics, chemistry, or english will require some sort of test. Other classes that are more specialized can be validated as GoNavyPro described (i.e. Statics, history of the modern world, etc. are some of the ones I have heard of) I believe each department sets their own guidelines.

Transfer ? Gain appointment in March, do you have to do last trimester at college?
