Such good news- my son got awarded a 3 year scholarship today!!! But it wasn’t for his top choice school where he has been admitted Early Decision.

He is going to American University- anyone know what are his odds they will let him transfer it? Process?

There are instructions in the portal regarding the process for requesting a transfer. Congrats to you and your DS.

Found them thanks. The search wasn’t letting me type :(

do you know how often/a rough expectation of how feasible this is?I know the Hoya battalion is a consortium. Not sure if this possibility exist but rarely happens?

My DS sent email as instructed to request a transfer of his scholarship to his 1st choice which he had mistakenly listed as second. It was handled in a couple of days.

Cadet Command is usually very accommodating with transfer requests. If this is the path that your DS chooses, an email to Cadet Command will start the process.

Was your son’s offer for the second choice as well? Or was the second choice just in his list and not in his offer? My son had three choices listed in his offer but not his first choice, where he is committed to going already. Deposit paid- we are locked in!

In case anyone else in this situation pops in and sees my thread, this thread was helpful:

He was awarded 4 year Navy ROTC for all of his schools and an Army 3 year to all of his schools: Nowich, Citadel, VMI, Texas A&M

Are you sure about being locked in? I thought you could back out though May. Was DS early decision? I think ED locks you in. We did not so ED.

@kjfackrell - If your DS is committed to his 1st choice I suggest 2 things. 1st - follow the instruction in the portal that you linked above regarding a transfer request, 2nd contact the unit at his 1st choice and start the dialogue.

I think the "locked In" reference is to deposit paid. You are not "locked in" to any ROTC scholarship until the start of your Sophmore year. 1st year is free.

By locked in I mean we are locked in to the school. He is ED accepted and we paid his deposit already. He will go to the school regardless- but his ROTC also helps keep the Gi bill from his Dad available for his brother, who wants med school. Ugh. College bills are going to take every penny I have!

Work with Cadet Command to request a transfer.

The probability of transfer request may be changing this year, so don’t take anything for granted. Work with CC and the ROO at your school of choice.

Can someone give the tldr on how to request a transfer. I want to transfer a 3 year from a school I didnt apply to, too a school I have yet to be accepted. They are in diffrent price ranges, 12k- 50k respectively. Is this possible? And if so, what is the first- last step for dummies. The scholarship is a 3 year

Refer to "additional information" in your portal. There are instructions on how to request a transfer from Cadet Command. Good Luck.
