How are people getting to usafa on the morning of i-day? Im sure there is a large portion of people not doing road trips with their fam and just traveling to colorado springs by themselves. I booked a hotel near the north gate of the academy but I'm stuck on how to get to base on the morning of. Should I get an uber, book the base approved taxi service, or try to hitch a ride with another person? Any advice helps!

I will be calling one of the base approved taxi services. If you have the same arrival time as me (current Travel Order is 0730), and are completely out of the way (I am staying at the South Gate, might be inconvenient for us both), I don't mind sharing a cab. The booklet mentions not to use Uber or Lyft by the way, as there is no guarantee the driver passes through the security checkpoint, and it is more than likely you will be turned back.

Awesome thanks! I haven't gotten my orders yet, but if I have the same time as you and am out of options, I'll reach out.

Last year I also travelled by myself. The day before, I found someone that was in my same Basic Squadron and just asked if I could ride with them. The family was more than willing to help. All you have to do is ask around and you will find someone.

Your arrival time will more than likely change. Last year everyone had the same arrival time- 7:30am- until closer to. Then my DS’s time was updated to mid morning. Kind of wish it had stayed 7:30am. We were all up just looking at one another “waiting”.

Like someone mentioned, no need for a taxi service. Many families will reach out and offer.

Do you know the exact location that we arrive on I-Day? The campus is huge, so I assume there is a specific location to where appointees would report too.

The Holaday Athletic Center, thats what it says in the appointee booklet.

If you're arrival time is the as me , hit me up! My dad and I are the only ones traveling and we'll be more than happy to take some one and their stuff in the backseat. Open to anyone btw.

However, I'll warn you, he's retired.... he has already told me Im getting embarrassed by him some how, some way 🤣.

Dads will do that! Especially retired Dads.

Disclaimer: I'm a retired Dad so I know what I'm talking about.
I'm aware. He knows how to push it justtttt enough that I get some heat but nothing more. A few extra pushups won't kill me

We’re at the Springhill Suites near the N gate and have a report time of 8:45-9:00. Have room for one or two if rides are needed. Several hotels nearby. PM me for contact info.

It is impossible to miss. Tons of signs and volunteers. It is extremely organized. If fact, you will never see any other military thing that organized for the rest of your career:)
