What's the best way to get from the airport in Providence, RI to the Academy (if you don't take a car)? Is there any public transportation to the academy?

If you are going to be a SWAB then you should look at the Cadet Handbook pages 7 & 8 for info. If just visiting then train/taxi are your two main options if not renting a car.

There is an Amtrak Station in Providence, 9 miles from the airport, and an Amtrak station in New London, just up the street from the main entrance. Both stations are a short Uber/Lyft ride, or in New London you could walk.

FYI: There is also a Coast Guard Academy Parents association Facebook page that is quite active and they/we answer a lot of questions like this as well.

The Academy offered a shuttle to the cadets when they went home for Thanksgiving and came back after winter break. They had to sign up in advance and there was a fee, but it worked well enough if your flights aligned with the shuttle times. Some of the cadets got rides from sponsor families as well.

My son always used Uber. From what I remembered, you have to MBTA to the Amtrak station, then Amtrak to New London....then walk or Uber to the academy. I think he did that once and said screw this, I'm just going to pay the extra $30 buck to Uber from the airport to the Academy. Time is more important than money sometimes. Also....I never worried about this....they're going to commission as CG officers, if they can't figure out how to get back to base, they're in trouble from the start.
