I read somewhere that Navy ROTC pays the cost of transporting student to the school where he is attending from his home. Is the same true for Army ROTC?

ie...Would they pay to fly him from the East coast to Hawaii if he gets offered a scholarship there?

AROTC 4 year scholarship winners do receive a travel allowance but I don't know how it works and the agreement says to check with your local PMS.

Don't know if they pay it, but I'm confident it would only be a one-time thing if they do. They only pay it once for Academy attendees and I would not expect ROTC to be different in that respect.

From the NROTC Scholarship Selection Booklet...

"NOTE: YOU WILL BE REIMBURSED FOR YOUR TRAVEL EXPENSES FROM YOUR PRESENT ADDRESS TO THE PRESCRIBED NROTC COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY AT THE GOVERNMENT TRANSPORTATION RATES. AS SUCH, IF YOU PLAN TO USE COMMERCIAL AIR TRANSPORTATION, IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU OBTAIN THE LEAST EXPENSIVE ONE-WAY FARE AVAILABLE. YOU WILL NOT BE REIMBURSED FOR ANY EXPENSES FOR LODGING OR ACCOMMODATIONS. IF YOU HAVE A CHANGE IN ADDRESS PRIOR TO YOUR ENROLLMENT MAKE SURE YOU NOTIFY US OF THE CHANGE IMMEDIATELY."

Obviously doesn't cover the AROTC question, but this is what was in my son's material.

The AROTC 4 year scholarship letter states the following;

"Transportation and/or Travel Allowance within the USA:
Four year scholarship winners are authorized a travel allowance upon initial enrollment in the Army ROTC scholarship program. Contact your PMS for assistance in completing your travel claim. This authorization does not extend overseas or to 3 year winners."

It's one time when you start and one time when you graduate. Best not to spend it before you get it, because it may take a while for that paperwork to go through.

Do AROTC winners have to be medically qualified first to put in for the travel reimbursement?

Yes...you need to be fully qualified and contracted

Would this apply for airfare costs only? Or can you apply for reimbursement of gas costs, as well as toll road costs, if your are driving to school?

It's a mileage reimbursement, based on how far the map says you live from the school.

Do you think flying First Class on Emirates would be reimbursed? :angel:
