Hello all, I have a question regarding the Air Force covering travel expenses. Ive been told by my ROTC cadre that I should save my travel receipts and I will be reimbursed, most importantly the flight cost from mass to Colorado. My question is will the Air Force reimburse the cost of traveling back and forth during breaks? And second, will the Air Force reimburse my parents expenses of traveling with me? *they are just coming to move in day. Any help clearing this up will be greatly appreciated. Thank you - Andrew

From the AFROTC site:
TRAVEL EXPENSES
All high school scholarship recipients are authorized to have their travel expenses covered from their home to their Air Force ROTC detachment. They will receive reimbursement approximately 30 days after the start of school.

It is my belief that the AF only reimburses for the initial travel for incoming cadets. This is the case for Army ROTC. Nothing is mentioned about parents or breaks.

Reimbursement is for travel prior to reporting only. Reimbursement is only for the student.

In my det, only four year HS scholarship recipients received this and it was only for the first plane ride to school (they all came from across the country). They've never had any other flights paid for by the AF during breaks for for summer recess as well.

Distance traveled dictates mileage or airfare. Reporting is reimbursed. Subsequent years is not. Student only; not parents.

I agree with everyone else. Your folks will be on their own dime. They will not pay for travel for Thanksgiving, Winter, spring or Summer break. That is on your own dime.
~ Find a good air miles credit card.

Additionally, you will not be on orders, thus, I would delve even deeper. Will they pay the surcharge for checked baggage?

Finally, have a financial discussion with them about things you have yet to think about. Fridge, microwave, tv, fans, butterfly chairs, computer desk chair, linens, etc. Do you rent a storage unit at the end of the spring semester until fall semester starts?
