so i've filled out all the information necessary for the "travel" part of the candidate portal. when are we supposed to hear anything on flight plans or tickets? Thanks!

K. i'd really appreciate some help with this. my parents are freaking out over whether they should purchase a $400 airline ticket and I need to be able to tell them something. What's the procedure here? Does west point simply send me a ticket in the mail? Do I need to call this travel agency to work things out? I NEED AN ANSWER ON THIS.

I purchased my sons ticket and he will be reimbursed by USMA sometime during the inprocessing. It was easier for us to plan. That is your safest option. Hope that helps. See you at R Day.

Are you traveling to West Point by yourself? If so, you need to go through the travel service so they can arrange ground transportation and a hotel room for you. Check in the Information for Candidates Offered Admission Packet for more info. It says there is a link to the travel agency through your candidate portal. It is my understanding if you have already purchased an airline ticket on your own, you can turn in your receipt and be reimbursed for the amount of a government ticket from your home. That is what we are doing because we are traveling with our son. The government amount will probably be less than the amount you paid - at least it is for the ticket we purchased for our son. Hope this helps.

If you are taking the R-day travel package offered by West Point you should get your ticket information in the first 2 weeks of June.
If you haven't received anything by June 12th, call admissions and they can put you in contact with the travel people.

etaylor: is your whole family going? If so, easiest to buy all your tickets at once and then file for reimbursement. There is no reason for your ticket to cost $400....the rates are very low right now...ATL to NYC is about $84 one way; cannot imagine it's much different from SC. Go to the airline websites and start searching for fare deals.

Only my dad's coming. He's already gotten a flight through delta and his using his own mileage. so i'm not using the overnight package thing. Just the government paid airline ticket.

If all I got was the gov't ticket, when should I hear something about actually receiving the ticket and any travel arrangements?

(oh and thanks for the responses. I was kinda freaking out :)

oh and i have no idea where my dad got that price that I quoted above. mom3boys, where do you find that low rate? my dad can be sometimes partial to certain airlines and completely ignore others.
