With the return to the Yard looming in a couple of days, my Plebe is looking toward Spring Break, which starts the afternoon of Friday March 11th until 1800 Sunday March 20th. One of my Plebe's Christmas gifts were points to use toward a Spring Break trip. However, in checking with various hotel chains, the guest registering has to be 21 or over. My Plebe and friends are all in the 18 - 20 year range. I understand that there is a sort of travel department on the Yard - does anyone know whether the travel service (if there is one) gets some sort of waiver for the 21 and older requirement for hotels, rental cars, etc.?

BTW - Congratulations to all those who have received appointments! For those still waiting, hang in there - you may not hear for a couple more months, so enjoy your senior year to the fullest while waiting. For those of you looking toward I-Day, your anxiety will increase as the days pass, so you should savor what's left of your senior year as well and remember that thousands before you have made it through I-Day and Plebe Summer!

The travel service on the yard is a travel agency. They usually do not get involved in points travel. The best thing to do is to contact the intended hotel and ask if they waive the under 21 rule for military. It is up to the local hotel to change their rules. Our son and friends are going on a cruise. The minimum age on some cruise lines is 25. It was waived for military.

Wow I understand that it is a liability thing but 25 sounds pretty high. You would think they'd be happy to "put you on the boat" once you pay the high price of admission.

My plebe, last year, rented hotel and hostel in Hawaii at the tender age of 19. I think the military id helped out.
