triple Q?

Are people supposed to receive a letter in their portal stating if they are triple qualified or not? West Point requested a waiver and they approved it, so does that mean I was qualified in the other areas? Thank you!

I finished my application and then received a letter saying I was qualified about a week later I believe. I'm not sure if they send them to everybody though. Email your admissions officer. They will give you so much information and are very helpful.

I could be wrong, but I think there is a limit on how many appointments can be given off waiver so you may not be deemed triple qualified. Or it could just be that the letter hasn't been sent yet.

Good luck.

Can anyone confirm this? I'm also waiting on a waiver (shoulder injury in August and subsequent surgery). I know of some people who didn't receive waivers until March / April and were offered an appointment.

I'm pretty sure the limit applies to waivers for color blind. They only allow so many, I think it's 20 per year.

That is only for USNA. I am red/green deficient so I am waiting on a waiver from USNA but for West Point I was deemed Medically Qualified

I never recieved a letter letting me know I was 3Q'd. I was greenlighted by the DoDMERB, passed my CFA, and turned in a transcript with all A's save for 2 Bs a C and a D (calc is tough). Unless that is enough to academically disqualify me, I should be 3Q'd.

But now you have me nervous, haha.

In MOST cases I don't believe your file is reviewed by the admissions committee until your application is finished (including dodmerb, cfa) and a nomination is received. After you have a finished app and a nom has been received by admissions, they will review and determine if 3q or no. If 3q'd you will see an update in portal.

Do you know if they will review an application for triple qualification if they only have 6 semesters recieved? My semester doesn't even end until the 20th of January.

I know of no limit on the number of medical waivers for USMA, as long as the condition still meets the medical requirements for commissioning as an officer. USNA does limit the number of appointments to those who wear glasses/contacts as well as other vision standards.

Yes they will. I received mine a week after I finished my application which only had up to my 6th semester transcript in it.

But was that after January 1st? Because that is the date that they require the 7th semester after.

I received my 3Q letter on October 25th. Maybe now that they require your 7th semester transcript, they will take that into consideration for a 3Q letter but I'm not exactly sure how it works. It might be that everything on the portal has to be green at the time WP reviews your application but I can't say with certainty.

They requested a waiver after I submitted all documents and such. So even though I received a medical waiver, I may not be triple qualified?

Medical is only one of the Q's. Getting the waiver does not necessarily mean that you have been qualified academically or athletically, although they would not have scheduled the medical unless the initial screen indicated you had a reasonable chance of being fully qualified. Because of the uncertain timeline of waiver decisions, the waiver would have been automatically requested - even if your file had not gone to the admissions committee. However, you should be able to estimate the other two Q's by your test scores, grades, CFA results, etc.

As long as you have all green checks in the portal, all you can do is sit and wait.

How many people who get a nom end up NOT being 3Q'd?

USMA releases the number of nominated & qualified candidates every year in the class profile. I'd recommend looking at the numbers for the class of 2020. Just Google West Point 2020 class profile

I don't think that West Point gives the number for those who end up being not nominated with 3Q letter. All I can say is that there are many people are 3Q'd with no nominatioms. The number of people with nominations is around 6,000 and those who receive 3Q letter is around 2,500 so it's really hard to know how many get the 3Q letter but not a nomination since 2,500 is the number for ONLY 3Q'd candidates.

Thanks. It seemed like a high number of nominees are unqualified...I feel as though the people who would be getting the noms would be academically and physically qualified at the very least. And medical shouldn't be all that difficult to get through; there's not much that will disqualify you and fewer things still that they won't grant a waver for.
