I just recently heard back (Friday) that I was qualified academically for the Naval Academy. I am being recruited for the sport of gymnastics, and the coach let me know that I had been triple qualified. I received a congressional nomination back in early December. The coach and my B&G told me that I had to "win my congressional slate"...does anyone have any insight on what that specifically means? What are my chances of receiving an appointment to USNA
"Winning the slate" means being the top contender for an appointment from the list (slate) of your MOC's nominated candidates. Your MOC will have x slots available for appointments, per the quota. Much depends on your MOC's method of submitting his/her slate: unranked, ranked, with or without a principal nom. USNA has its own candidate evaluation system, will take note of any ranking from the MOC, especially principal. Whoever USNA takes from that slate, offers an appointment to, and charges it to the MOC quota, is said to "win" that slate.
If you don't get appointed from the slate, with a 3q and nom you head to the NWL to compete nationally. USNA will "shop" the pool and choose a certain number of appointments from there. Though you still have a MOC nom, the appointment is not charged to the MOC, but to another category.
It also sounds like your coach is indicating you are not a "blue chip" recruit, meaning it's not likely an appointment charged to a SECNAV nom (Supe's discretionary) will be offered.
You have done everything you can do. Focus on senior year, tend to Plans B-D, go PT every time the waiting waiting waiting over the next few months makes you crazy - and have some fun.
