TS clearance question

Hi all, I just had a quick security clearance question. Yes, I know TS is very extensive and lies will get you in trouble. I’ve done some research. I forgot to list a civil involvement on my initial ROTC enrollment form, but I came clean to my major about my mistake and told me not to worry about it, not to even put it in WINGS. It was just a speeding ticket that I went to court for and got dismissed. I know it’s still gonna come up on the TS clearance. Would this be a major issue even though I asked my Major about it and he told to just me to just forget about it?

Secondly, when it comes to the section regarding illegal alcohol usage, the only time I’ve ever consumed alcohol is when my girlfriend whose 21 has gotten drinks at a restaurant or party, which is a rare occasion. I’ve had a sip when she gets a drink just to taste but I hate Alcohol so I’ve never consumed more than a sip. I don’t remember the exact dates of these occasions. How should I phrase this on the SF86?

For the speeding ticket, have you looked up the SF-86 on line and read the fine print? I slapped on my Siri helmet, pulled up the form online, scrolled through, found the section, and copied the relative criteria below. Bolding in blue is mine. Sec 22, p. 94. Yes, you just keep scrolling.

You just answer the straightforward questions. If it meets the criteria to not check, do not check. If there is an issue with not having reported it earlier, you’ll be asked about it. I doubt it would impact your clearance. They know young people occasionally rush through forms or forget things.

Complete the following if you responded 'Yes' to one of the following:
- In the last seven (7) years have you been issued a summons, citation, or ticket to appear in court in a criminal proceeding against you?
(Do not check if all the citations involved traffic infractions where the fine was less than $300 and did not include alcohol or drugs)
- In the last seven (7) years have you been arrested by any police officer, sheriff, marshal or any other type of law enforcement official?
- In the last seven (7) years have you been charged with, convicted of, or sentenced for a crime in any court? (Include all qualifying charges,
convictions or sentences in any Federal, state, local, military, or non-U.S. court, even if previously listed on this form). - In the last seven (7) years have you been or are you currently on probation or parole?
- Are you currently on trial or awaiting a trial on criminal charges?

Continuing with my Siri mission, WRT underage alcohol consumption, I skimmed through Section 24 (starts on p. 108) and didn’t see a specific question that asks “Have you consumed alcohol under the legal age?” Note I said “skimmed,” because scrolling 100+ pages on an iPhone has likely defeated my ability to accurately pick that question out. If you have found the specific question, be sure you read all information at the top of the page and all fine print surrounding the question. Honesty is always best. If there is a Comments box, put “experimental usage” in a brief comment.

Finally, here is a link to an official guide to the SF-86.

I don’t blame you for not reading it haha. And yes the ticket was below $300.
Well then - you get to breeze right past that. You may exhale now!

It’s good you are taking it seriously. It pays to look at all govt forms with your pen set safely to the side/mouse hand or touchpad finger firmly strapped down while you read the full question, read any surrounding fine print and determine the correct level of response. Be very literal in your reading. Offer no more and no less information to precisely answer a question. Or not, if you don’t have to.

Firstie here, bro relax and pull the stick out of your butt. You'll be fine as a cadet but I'm worried you don't have the common sense to be an officer.

Hey, so you are a firstie, about to commission, and this is how you speak to/advise those new to this whole thing, who are seeking counsel and asking a question??

Respectfully, before even stepping onto the floor is not the time (if ever) to be bucking the system. Challenging the rules. Don’t jump all over people for wanting to play by the rules. Especially your underclass/cadets. Seems to be a theme with your posts.

OP, Capt MJ knows her stuff. And good for you for being thorough. It can be intimidating…do your best and follow her points on how to figure things out going forward. Congrats on your selection!!

I'm not telling anyone to break the rules, alls I'm saying is that the number of people without a lick of sense here is already too high.

And I'm worried you don't have the character, compassion, understanding, tolerance, and selfless-service capability to be an officer.

Check yourself, kid.

This is not the venue for you to flex what you perceive to be your depth and breadth of experience.
