Turned Down Medically

I wanted to ask if there is anything at all you can do once they turn you down medically
Many threads about the DODMERB/DQ/WAIVER process on SAF, but the following sums it up pretty well --
A DQ is a DODMERB decision and can potentially be reversed or, more commonly, overcome by a waiver. Once USNA sends a TWE (email), that is the end of the line. It typically means a medical waiver wasn't granted
Bottom line, the DODMERB DQ is an objective determination that you do or don't meet the listed medical standard . Not all medical conditions are black and white, and you might be able to present additional documentation or tests to show that you meet the standard. However, if DODMERB determines you do not meet the standard, the decision to waive or not to waive is more discretionary (of course, some conditions are simply not waiverable), and is a more subjective determination that takes into account of what the candidate adds to the Brigade and fitness for duty as an Officer.

So if the test was inconclusive( I hear they sometimes dq with those) I can submit a proper test and possibly reverse the “Turned down medically”

It’s a little unclear where you are in the process.

Assume you received a DQ from DoDMERB at some point.

Was AMI requested?
Did the SA request a waiver?
The waiver process is essentially the appeal process.
If you have new information to present from healthcare providers, you can send that to DoDMERB.

Or, was this your actual admissions decision for this cycle, and you are already through the waiver process, if one was requested?

Were you offered the opportunity for some type of appeal?

Some DQs are never waivered. Some are often waivered. Some are rarely waivered. Some have caps for waivers for certain conditions, such as color vision deficiency at USNA.

I was given an LOA to NAPS pending medical. They DQed me based on an inconclusive MCCT test and supposed anaphylaxis ( I provided them with information that contradicts this, but maybe they missed it). My waiver was denied and my candidate portal says " Turned down Medically" but my waiver contact person says that I can still provide information ad get this reversed if I am quick. I have another MCCT test this Thursday and am working on getting notes from my doctors rebutting the supposed asthma and anaphylaxis.

You’re doing all the right things. Up-to-date, specific comments from healthcare providers can be the magic wand. It can’t be the coach saying, “I’ve never seen X have an episode, so X is fit for military service.”

Good luck and let us know how it goes. The door is still cracked open.

Quick question: the doctor stated in her notes " I recommend she carry an epi-pen, but the allergy can be resolved with antihistamines" Concerning my allergy to pistachios ( may do an oral food challenge for this as well, since my IgE levels are higher for hazelnut and I was cleared for that). I can get her to say that I don't need one, but it might be quicker to highlight this for USNA. Also, should I tell them or her that I don't get hives with allergic reactions, as she stated in her notes?

I think you need to talk to the USNA admission medical representative instead of getting firm advice on here. No one on this forum can truly tell you what can or needs to be done. USNA admissions always tells BGOs to refer medical issues to USNA admissions or DODMERB, because we (including others here) are not privy all of your medical information (protected by HIPAA) or your specific circumstances.
