TURNED DOWN

My DS got turned down by USNA late last Friday. We had not posted yet. He does have a great Plan B to play D1 football with scholarship. He is disappointed but moving on. He has a sister at USNA so made it a little harder.

To those receiving TWE's this week, I know how you are feeling right now - DS received his TWE about this time last year (actually a couple of days later than this). Like RAC131, it was particularly tough since big sister got in to USNA the year before. But some time has passed and he is happy at his plan B and will end up achieving his goal, just a different path. I think in some ways he is happy to be forging his own way rather than following in his sister's footsteps.

Anyone who applied and made it this far has what it takes to succeed in life and have a bright future. You are among an elite group by even trying for this route, so whether you apply again or go in a different direction, be proud of making it this far and keep pushing forward toward your goal. This TWE won't sting so much in a little while.

Still praying for a NROTC scholarship, but he has received enough so far to make it through his first year. I trust in God, and I trust my son to him. Great things will come!!!!
Oh no, bluediamond, so sorry to hear about TWE. That portal check is rough, my DS just stared at it for a while as we hugged him. And amen sister, whether one year of college with NROTC leads to USNA, or leads to three more year of college, I want my son listening to God, not me, I don't know the big plan.

Alrighty then! We just got ours too! So who wants to buy a CRAP LOAD of USNA gear? I know, I know, I'm funny but seriously my DD has a Masters degree in shopping and we have everything... private message me if you're interested.

Also who needs I Day and PPW reservations? I've got multiple. Message me today if interested.

I am so sorry to hear that, WonderGirl1965. Is she going to reapply? Don't get rid of the USNA gear yet!

Ahh...so sorry DrMom...if I remember right he did get into the AF, right?
Yes...he is accepted to USAFA... so no tears here. Colorado Spring is far outside of the Beltway but my mother is out there...I guess I can book rooms for I-Day, A-Day and Parents Weekend on the USAFA schedule now.

3 years ago our DS was waitlisted and eventually denied by USNA but by then had already accepted USAFA appt. fast forward to today and he is closing in on his last year and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Congrats to your son on accepting an appointment to join the greatest Air Force in the world!

Thank you RedDragon. He did a lot of soul searching in the weeks prior to accepting his appointment. He walks away from the application process with a clear victory and great pathway to being an aviator.
As he says, "Joining the slightly shorter Long Blue Line."

LOVED your post! We too are praying for God to show us His will for our sons life.
God bless you all, keep the FAITH

Not sure how to private message WONDERGIRL965. But we would be interested in Navy Gear and I DAY and PPW reservations. Thanks and GOD BLESS

So sorry to hear about the TWEs. Just know that you gave it your absolute best. As the great ones say, you only fail when you quite trying. So take this rejection as a motivation to work hard and prove USNA admissions that you will not stop applying until they accept you.

The words of Irish poet Samuel Beckett come to mind: ''Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better.'' The words aren't about failure but about learning from losses and persevering and striving to do better. Only one candidate can win each designated spot on the slate, and if you didn't get it this year, there is a next time that could be yours. I'm inspired by people on this forum who have applied two and three times. One guy said he was going for his fourth next year. He really wants it. I too got the TWE punch in the gut today but as many others have pointed out, most of us are blessed and fortunate to have really great alternatives in the meantime and the opportunity to try again. Not to be overly quotey, but Muhammad Ali once said "It Isn't the Mountain Ahead That Wears You Out; It Is the Grain of Sand in Your Shoe." I'm thinking of the thin white email as a pebble in my shoe and I won't let it bring me down for long. The mountain still lies ahead and I'll get there with determination and thinking positively. Best wishes to all those who have been appointed and those who remain pending review.

God does not close a door without opening a window. DS received a TWE today and in hours I was encouraged to call Greystone. After talking and researching, he has applied. They also told us since we are in state, his local scholarships can be used to offset the cost. I am still scared and in till it is all said and done, plan B is still a go, but I am proud of his determination. I don't think I can do this again, but obviously he does. He went to USNA during summer seminar, and left his heart.

What a wonder sentiment to share with all of us! God has something special planned for you, I have no doubt.
God bless you and best of luck!

My son's came a couple weeks ago, still waiting on USAFA but do have plan B in action. Good luck to both of your sons, and DrMom, good luck in Colorado! We are in the beltway area too.

Jessica, I am so sorry. I hope you have a plan--a good plan. There are many pathways--that lead to the Naval Academy, that lead to a commission in the Navy, and that lead to commissioned service as an officer in the armed forces. Our lives are long--you are young and will find the pathway to get there.

@majorwife97 -- I know. This is payback for all those years of "I don't want to come to Colorado Springs. I don't know anyone there." So...there you go. I am teaching a class there in mid-June and then it will be three more trips to support #3.

I am so sorry to hear that, WonderGirl1965. Is she going to reapply? Don't get rid of the USNA gear yet!
Lord I hope not! LOL... I doubt it because she will be like a junior in college for 2017-2018... she did dual enrollment junior and senior year at the local community college. She mumbled something today about not wanting to start over as a freshman. But who knows? Her life, her decision.

Thank you for asking.

End of the road for DS #2, but he took it in stride. Probably helped that we just completed a 3 day 1000+ mile road trip this past weekend to experience Cal Maritime Day for accepted freshmen at his Plan B school (Cal Maritime Academy). He enjoyed the tours and talking with cadets. As a mom, I love CMA because my DD is a 3/C right now at Cal Maritime and absolutely loves every day. She just got her 100 day cruise assignment for the summer; she'll be on a Military Sealift Command cruise.

Don't take me wrong, I love USNA too and now CW week in May at the Academy with DS#1 will probably be my last time to visit the Yard for many years. The past 4 year journey with annual visits to USNA have been an honor and a privilege. I am going to miss the Mid store something fierce! I know my mid-moms BFF will remain close as our children head to the fleet and beyond.

God bless all those appointed to the Class of 2021 - may you stay safe and healthy through Plebe Summer and meet/exceed your potential during your time at the Academy. And for those waitlisted or with TWE's - your future will be just as bright. I fully believe that each of you can reach your potential and do amazing things to serve our great country in a million different ways that do not require a service academy education!
