Turned Down

Were those that were given an LOA as well as a Nomination all accepted?
Typically, LOAs given before the application is complete list requirements that must be fulfilled, such as gaining DoDMERB qualification, successfully completing CFA, etc. An applicant may have an LOA and a nom, but fail to become fully qualified, and hence, no appointment is offered.

If the applicant is fully qualified with a nom and LOA, they should receive an offer of appointment.

Awesome! Thanks!
So another question then....Does this mean anything? Maybe they are reviewing your file? I'm sure this is just one of the things I will keep wondering about until I hear something!

It means you are not yet rejected. Whether or not you have been reviewed, will be reviewed again, etc. Unknown.

I'm not in a position to be sure but I believe that they all were as I've seen the district getting multiple folks "in" on a recurring basis.
For instance, 7 admitted to USMA last year.

That's possible? I thought all SAs tried to make it relatively equal around the country to allow everyone to have equal representation. So once that slate for each MOC is filled, the SAs then go for who's ever "second best" regardless of MOC?

Elected officials often do press releases and photo ops with all appointees from their District. Many of those could have received nominations from other sources, and their appointments are charged to those nomination sources. The elected official happily kluges them all up together.

It’s can be very asymmetrical, because of the various “competition buckets” set up by nom sources and the number of appointments that can be charged to those.

Diving into this may help:

In addition to what Capt MJ said, sometimes there are districts with 0 because they had no qualified applicants. Also, the Congressional noms are well under half of the total offers that are given and yes, after the forced geographic distribution of the MOC noms, the academies can go after people that they want, athletes, minorities, etc.

What does it even mean for the portal to be updated? My sons has updated but nothing has changed. Still complete-pending review

If you go to the "My Progress" tab and scroll below the list of application wickets, there is a time stamp of when the portal was last updated.

Are NWL appointments usually the last ones to go out? I know they like to resolve their slates pretty early, so I was just curious if anyone had any idea

I don't think this happens in stages. It all happens concurrently as they figure things out. In fact they'll figure out charging the appointment later in many cases.
