Hi everyone,

Received TWE today. Had a feeling this was coming so I'm not too disappointed, however I want honest feedback when it comes to reapplying next year. I'm currently a college student who's not a STEM major, nor am I a D1 athlete. Therefore should I even put all the work into applying again?

No one can tell anyway, but certainly not from that limited description of yourself. In any case you have to have your heart in it. Do you? If you do you shouldn't need anyone else's opinion. Just my 2 cents.

You are asking the wrong question. Candidly I have learned quite a bit over the past two admissions cycles and have seen my DS mature into a grown man that has grown into a man that I am so confident in the choices he is making I am turning in my helicopter parents pilot’s license. We began this journey trying to fulfill his desire to go to a SA. Along the way we grew so much and had our eyes open to so many things including what I think of the end goal which was never a spot at Annapolis. We learned it’s not the spot in Annapolis that matters, it’s joining the fleet that is the real goal.

When we heard people telling us have a Plan B it almost felt like they were telling us that DS wasn’t good enough for USNA, but what they were really telling us was commissioning is what matters. We all have ideas and bias on the best path to get there. But what we learned is the path you take leads to many forks in the road that takes you places you didn’t even think of.

So the big question is ... do you want to be a commissioned officer in the US Navy or USMC? Ivy League degrees look good on the wall but SA degrees ROTC and OCS are just the jumping off point to a commission. If the answer is yes then widen your path to include all the officer ascension programs and keep your options wide. Reapply next year and show your determination, try NROTC or be open to OCS when you get your four year degree.

I know everyone here will be proud of what ever your path you take to become a leader in the fleet!

Agree. If you really want it, then choose the best path for you. Assess who you are and what you want but be sure to be honest with yourself. Scan the horizon for the options available to achieve your goals, gather the data and make the decision. And then put your heart and soul into it. It doesn’t matter what I think or anyone else on this forum. Best of luck. We are cheering for you.

Hey man, I just got my TWE today as well. Ultimately, if you really want to go to the Academy, the answer as to whether or not you should reapply should be obvious to you. If this is something you really want, if it's your dream, then damn the torpedoes and go for it. I would take the time to do some soul searching and figure out whether or not this is truly what you want. I did and I'm glad because of it.
