Received TWE from USAFA today. 12,000 applicants, 1,285 accepted. You who have an appt should be proud!

Still have NROTC scholarship @ OU, AFROTC scholarship @ OSU barring a waiver, USNA and USCG still waiting.

Good luck to everyone. Our kids are the best, and we have plenty to be proud of! Life is good!:thumb:

Thin White Envelope- usually means you did not receive an appointment. Sorry to hear that EagleMom.

Unfortunately we also received a TWE today, which mentioned waiting list. Son is very upset, as is the rest of the family. But plan B is to play soccer at Daniel Webster (good aeronautical engineering program.) The stress and waiting is over. Congratulations to those who have been accepted, and good luck to everyone.

they only offered to 1285? surprising. we entered with 1367. probably not dropping out like they want us too

or maybe that's how many they expect to accept? haha, since both of our classes ('12 & '13) were overfilled, that doesnt seem likely though. maybe they did reduce the amount of appts they gave out

We received TWE also. LALD1990, are you from the NH area? My daughter applied at Daniel Webster also, but will be going to to Embry-Riddle for meteorology on a Type 2.

Unfortunatly, I recieved the TWE yesturday in the mail. I told AFROTC that I do type 7 and stay in-state but I got waitlisted from UVA which is the only college in VA I wanted to go to. So, I might try to change it to a type 3 and go to one of the out of state college that I applied to once all the financial aid come in. Academy, there is always next year!!

They reduced the class size for this year. Next year will be even more competitive: only 1,100 slots.

1,100??? we've lost 100 so far. by the time they're firsties, it will be down to 800 probably. surprising...

Not surprising that they are cutting back on appointments, as they cutting back on Active Duty officers right now anyway.

Sorry to those who did not get in, but remember, you can still apply next year.

Aye...heard it from both my ALO and my admission counselor. Guess they're trying to balance things out after a lower than normal dropout rate for 2013.

Now will that just mean less candidates will be chosen from the qualified alternate pool?

I guess they really got it right when they gave us our class motto :thumb:

LOA to USMA and an appointment. Four year AROTC to Cornell. TWE from Air Force Academy (had a nomination), and Air Force ROTC. Accepted to MIT, Villanova and a few others including some DIII schools for lacrosse. The Air Force is the only place that does not want him!

Saying this sarcastically (kind of), because I know how hard it is for the committees to pick from a great group of young men and women. Best of luck to all!

Wow, that really makes you wonder, doesn't it? Good luck with your decision. Those are some great schools to choose from, I don't know how you all will make your final decision.

Not uncommon to get selected by one or more academies and not from one of the others. A lot depends on how many applied. My son ONLY applied to Air Force. No others were an option for him. PotentialParent's kid could be in a similar situation. e.g. 8 from his district applied to air force, but only 3 applied to army, navy, etc...

It's also possible that with people who turn down appointments, or dropped out of the academy, that the MOC had more openings available at the other academies and not at air force. It's possible that the MOC DIDN'T HAVE ANY openings at air force. Remember, they are only allowed to have 5 cadets at the academy at any one time. (5 that were his/her nominations and count against their slate).

So definitely don't read into it. Each academy is independent of each other. Just like getting accepted to yale but NOT harvard has no bearing on each other. Each is separate and has different student bodies and slots. Same with the academies. best of luck with your excellent choices. mike.....
