Just checked portal and saw the twe sitting there. Looks like it went out at 4:52 this morning. DS is really bummed.

Oh well, now on to plan B. We were re-boarded for Rotc, so really hoping this next board will come thru with some good news. Does anyone know if embry-riddle or U of Arizona let you stack scholarships if he happens to get something from rotc?

One other question..DS wants to try again next year- does what school you attend for college have any bearing on admissions decision?

To everyone that got in - congratulations! I'm sure you'll do great, we're proud of all of you.

To those still waiting...we will keep our fingers crossed for good news coming for all. Hang in there.

Bummer for your son, but he shows a huge amount of drive, character, and dedication for wanting to try again next year, and that should be commended! Good luck to him!

So sorry, but best of luck with plan B. He will make it no matter what!!

Sorry for the sad news and I hope you receive good news from ROTC soon so he can move on and embrace plan b!

Did he have a nomination??

Yup, had congressional and presidential nominations.

34 ACT, 2130 SAT (1390 Math & Eng)
3.47 uw 3.68 weighted gpa (probably what got him - though it was at a private

oops hit send too quick..

meant to say - he went to a private college prep school, rated by some top in the state, but probably at least in the top 5.

Also 4 varsity letters in track and cross country
3 academic letters in engineering
captain of the engineering team - scored 5th in state in competition
volunteer summer camp counselor for disabled and lots of service hours
at food bank.
Also national merit semifinalist

hopefully this is good enough to get ROTC scholarship ....

Thanks for the support everyone..trying to keep him from getting too discouraged, but I think he needs a day or too before he can completely move on.
Good luck to everyone else.

Sorry to hear that. He has a great academic resume and a bright future wherever he goes.

Wow! I can't imagine why he didn't get an appointment ?? Where do you live? Perhaps your district had a lot of people with the same quality resume.

HCC

We live in the Columbus Ohio area. So yes it's a bit competitive but probably not as bad as many other places.

Guess it was just a year with a lot of great candidates. Good news for the services and our country.

Now just waiting on the Rotc board.

Icdrmom:

I am surprised he received an update on a Sunday and even more surprised at the TWE with his stats. Did the TWE state why? Did he need a medical waiver?

My son is still waiting, but the bottom of his portal states "released March 19th." Still trying to think optimistically but...

Tell your son to keep his chin up! Sounds like he'll be successful in whatever he chooses.

Honestly I am shocked. With that resume and all it would seem he was a shoe-in. Can't help but wonder if there's some sort of mistake. Did he get an email to check his portal or was it just there?

Received an email to check portal and there it was; second rejection this weekend (USNA TWE received yesterday). Very dissapointed, still waiting to hear about NROTC. DS had a congressional nomination for both academies and pretty good stats: 1450 SAT (680 CR, 770 Math), 4.78 weighted GPA, 2 varsity sports, JRAFROTC..... This turned out to be a pretty bad weekend.

Got an email to check his portal this morning like Tiger.

Medically qualified, including vision. No waiver needed. Deferred early entry.

The letter said he was a good candidate, just not enough slots for all the good candidates.

They ended by encouraging him to try rotc. We were reboarded a few weeks ago so now are waiting for the next board results so we can decide on plan b or c.

Ahh...the waiting never ends, just changes a little.

Good luck with ROTC! I received the TWE from USAFA two years ago, but got an AFROTC scholarship so I did ROTC, reapplied and got the TWE again, but I was enjoying ROTC more than I thought I would. So it all works out in the end! I think I'm in the perfect place right now....:)

Thanks afrotc16!

That really takes some of the sting out of the twe.

If you don't mind my asking, which school do you attend and what type of scholarship did you receive?

I attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute and I received a Type 1 scholarship. I'm majoring in Mechanical Engineering and I really like the school and my detachment.

BTW my stats were pretty close to your son's except my GPA was a bit higher. I had a 1400 sat and 3.6 unweighted GPA.

evaluations

lcdrmom -
Sorry about the TWE. Your son's stats sound very competitive. How confident are you of the teacher's recommendation letters? I would touch base with them and find out if there are areas that he could improve that they might have said in their evaluation. I have found that some teachers will give glowing top marks and others are more critical even when top marks are deserved. I would just want to know so they aren't asked to recommend him again if they aren't able to give a positive review. Good luck. My older son went ROTC at Texas A&M and loves it, but your DS should definitely reapply next year.

PT

I'm not sure how he did in fitness, but I didn't see that mentioned. It might not be the most important, but it does play a role. On the other hand, his academics sound great!
