How soon will folks find out of they have not been selected for an appointment? Will TWE's begin to be sent now that the application closure date has past? It's so hard to get excited about plan B when the dream of West Point is still a possibility.

Well-answered my own question. 1st ones likely on USMA board to receive TWE. He's already emailed asking how he can
improve his file for next year! For now, trying to get over the dream and work on the great plan B that he has been offered.
All the best to candidates still in the running!

The end goal is the butter bars on the shoulders. I have plenty of friends from my NROTC days that made O-6. Even know a few that made General. The Academy is only one path to get there. Good luck. It says a lot you put yourself in the mix to compete.

So confused. Did you not post an AROTC winner to Darmouth, Cornell, and Stony Brook?

What's the status on Dartmouth and Cornell apps? AROTC and Dartmouth/Cornell would be fantastic. USMA be damned. Or did you outkick your coverage?

Thanks Craig for the kind words. Going to really try to refocus his energy on plan B/finishing Senior year strong-as much as he already wants to reapply for 2020-not sure that I'm overly thrilled for him to go through the roller coaster of the SA route again. Luckily, the 4 year AROTC offer-he'll be able to live his dream as an Army officer-the end game will be the same. Best to you and the rest as you travel your journeys!

Sledge, he accepted 4 year AROTC at Cornell-waiting a decision end of month from them. He has been accepted to a couple of his 7 AROTC options EA, but cadet command offered at three schools were waiting on. He lost the ED option anywhere with the SA route-waiting on regular decision. Fingers crossed-I'll post if he gets it. He's wanted West Point since he was very little- truth be told-I grew up in a military family-Dad retired now and he spent so much time away from family- it's very hard. I then married an Army fellow-he's out now. I have three boys DS is oldest-I've tried to steer them/him away from military life for so long- guess just who he is. So for now, I realize that he'll live his dream-hopefully at Cornell. If not, I'll have to help him try to figure out how to request a transfer to one of his accepted schools.

I have a plebe at USMA. I'm a big SA fan, but not a snob, especially when it comes to other prestigious institutions. My brother graduated from Cornell. He had a fraternity brother (Chem Engineering) in AROTC. Good American! USMA has national reputation. So does Cornell. Your DS has what it takes to get this far into the Cornell process? It'll work out. Hoping for the best for you and DS. USMA is not be-all end-all.

One more sledge-thanks so much-best to your plebe. Unfortunately, my DS is stubborn so most likely I'll be supporting another run at West Point 2020. I can secretly hope though that if he makes Cornell-maybe he'll meet a nice girl and settle into civilian life? Ha-probably no such luck :). Bet our DS's will met up at some point. Not sure I've got the lingo right-but looks like TWE letter was QNS and nicely written.
All the best!

Yes, yes they will. Motivators gravitate.

My $.02 on reapplying (since my DS did). Most engineering majors take 5 years to graduate anyway. So, why not reapply and have those 5 years equal 1 civvie school plus 4 at SA? It's worth a shot. Reapplication isn't quite as tedious as the first time--many essays are re-used/re-tooled. DoDMeRB is good for 2 years, and a few other pieces are one and done.

Thanks Mom3boys-three boys here too.
Congrats to your son! It will be interesting to see what next year brings for him. I know wherever his journey takes him he will do well. He's a strong, smart young man. He'll contact cadet command on Monday to see how to request a transfer if he doesn't get into 1st AROTC choice. He's stuck on the Army officer as his goal. His 1st AROTC choice didn't make me nervous at all (he's spoken to them and such) until getting the QNS for West Point because he's well within range with all SATs, AP's, sports etc (same as all of these exceptionally talented young adults)...but nothing is a given especially an Ivy admission. Fingers crossed that he'll be at Cornell AROTC!
Stay tuned :)

2019 Mom congratulations! Maybe mine will hear sooner than end of month? Which school did he apply to there? Such a roller coaster ride, this morning he's getting Emails from EA places with merit and fafsa awards. What a difference a day makes!

@Rockats, he applied to ILR at Cornell. We have not seen the financial aid package yet :) but almost certain he will not take it. He has appointments to USMA and USCGA, so one of them will be it, I think.

Glad things are looking better today!
