So got home today and as always checked my mailbox. And it turns out I got the dreaded TWE and was not offered an appointment to the class of 2019. I was not waitlisted either. It seem like I got my rejection early. I had a congressional nomination as my nomination source. Does this mean they put my application down pretty fast and weren't very impressed or is this normal timing? In the meantime trying to stay positive and improve my application for class of 2020. I really just wouldn't be happy at any other school. Thanks for any and all advice.

I'm so sorry to hear your news. My DS received his last Monday. You will find a lot of encouragement and support in the thread I started last week. TWE Received. It's currently on page 2. All the best as you move forward to your Plan B or Re-application. Maybe we'll see you on the roller coaster next year!

Sorry about that, friend. Like you said, just work hard and reapply. What's your plan B?

I plan on doing NROTC at NC State and majoring in either some type of engineering or physics. I also plan on attending summer school at NC State this summer to get ahead and stay competitive. In the end a year of regular college is not so bad. Should I get accepted to USNA class of 2020 that first year of college will really help me out academically and it also gives me another year to get better physically. Obviously I'm upset but I'm trying to see the benefits to this situation

I will eagerly once again be getting on that roller coaster. It really is quite the process. Best of luck to you as well.

sbrown96, I think you have to put your energy into your Plan B for next year and later when USNA isn't so busy contact your RD and ask where they think you are in need of improvement. Last year my DD received the dreaded TWE and was not waitlisted either. We knew there were areas that weren't perfect (still pretty good but not perfect), so we moved on to focusing on her plan B. There are many others here on this forum who have been down this road also and have later earned their appointment to USNA. Check the thread,"Second Time on the Roller Coaster" to read some of their stories. It is nice to know it does happen to a lot of candidates. In our family, 2 received the TWE and 2 after one year of college/prep earned their appointments! Good luck!

Sorry about the TWE. I am a re applicant this year. If you have any questions do not hesitate to send me a message.

Also, do everything that you can to strengthen your application! Retake the SATs and the ACTs. Finish the academic year strong. If you don't already apply for a job; either during school, the summer, or both. Do some more volunteering that you are passionate about. And do well in your first semester at college, because your application will not be touched until your fall semester transcript goes in.

Good luck for your future!

Thanks for that advice. And excuse my ignorance but is the RD the Regional Director? Also when would you suggest is a good time to call?

TWE received here in NY-27. Presidential and congressional noms...it's dreadful feeling.

From a three time applicant, I can say just keep moving. Use it as motivation to succeed academically this semester and next and hang on. PM me if you have any questions. Good luck at NC State!

I am also a third time applicant who finally received my LOA. The best advice I can give you is to make sure you keep up with community service and leadership. In my experience, this was an area of focus during my later interviews. Showing USNA you can persevere through the disappointment is huge. I am also available to answer any questions, so feel free to PM me.

I understand the disappointment you are feeling, I was told I was extremely qualified twice and then received the bad news. It is hard to see it now but not attending the academy immediately after high school can be a blessing. Obviously academics come first, but you will have the ability to go out and have some great adventures. If I had been accepted that first year I would not have been able to get SCUBA certified or take some flight lessons right away. The year will only be as good as you make it to be, so enjoy the freedom of a year in civilian college.

Best of luck

I couldn't agree more. I am taking advanced math and physics classes that will benefit me enormously if I go to USNA next year *knock on wood*. I know graduation and commissioning will have been delayed, but I know now that I'll be able to succeed academically. Like 4.0swimmer said, it's hard to see it now, but you will grow and mature and when you are accepted, you will succeed.

In a way I have been preparing myself to receive possible bad news ever since the beginning. So of course I'm still upset but I am also glad I am going to get the opportunities to better myself now before possibly going to Navy (hopefully!). I honestly think I would have had somewhat of a tough time academically if I had gotten in this year. So I am glad I now have the chance to take or retake some classes I had trouble with in high school. I am in a way relieved to just be knowing where I am going to go next year as the wait for any news was killing me. But as I said before Navy is just where I feel I have to be even if that means reapplying twice. Good luck to all reapplying

I don't believe anybody that has stayed in the "game" this long has anything to be ashamed of. It means that you are a very good potential candidate, not many can say that. This is not just about getting great grades, a stellar ACT/SAT and terrific essay; this about the entire person as a candidate, and many ambiguous and unknown qualities that the academy looks for. Shoot, most don't even get this far. I am proud that my DS got this far, I sure couldn't have. If he gets the TWE, he will be OK, greatly disappointed, but OK. His dreams are still there for the realizing, and so are those of all those that get a TWE.

Absolute truth spoken here! Congratulations to ALL who got far enough to get a TWE or a BFE! You are the finest.

You could do everything right, have super scores, and be a PT stud. The stars still have to align. No shame if you did your best.

I'm sorry to hear the news. But don't wallow in misery just yet. I received my TWE as a senior in high school to c/o 2018 last year. I am currently a freshman at the University of Vermont and received my appointment 2 weeks ago. I thought I would hate any other place, but let me tell you, it will be hard to leave here. Embrace plan B or you will not do well. Reapplication gives you a huge bump in chances and academics plebe year will be much easier. Also, I am a physics major and I heavily recommend it as it allows you to take Chem Calc and Physics during both semesters freshman year. Good luck friend, and realize that you have 5 more years to apply.
