TWE

TWEs are sent through a rolling process similar to the appointments. As slates are resolved and it becomes impossible to get an appointment based on your nominations they send them. The academy knows where you DD sits in terms of competing on the nominations slate as well as where they sit on the NWL. If they are second on the slate and the top candidate has not accepted then they may wait till May. If they are ranked 7th on the slate then they probably have already received it. Not receiving one yet is still a good thing. That means that they are still seen as competitive.

TWE - Thin White Envelope - what bad news comes in, though it can be the The Worst Email these days with e-updates.

As opposed to BFE, Big Fat Envelope, opposite of above.

Problem is slate has been filled - no chance is getting in - MOC said "little to none" so why not just put us

The MOC appointment route IS NOT the end all be all walk to get in. There are still NWL nominees, Supt. nominees, etc. It's not even Mid March yet. I was told to wait for the end of April; if it hasn't come by then it probably won't.

Hey don't get down. There is word that the next big wave is this Tuesday (barring any weather problems)!! Still many appointments to be offered. And after that there is still a chance. The wait is almost unbearable, but don't assume failure this early. The competitive slates, which most of the slates are, have just been resolved.

wait did your MOC tell you that there is a little to none chance? Or was that your RC or someone else in the admissions office? I don't think your MOC would have any idea what your chances are outside of his/her own slate. As stated above, there are many other ways to get an appointment. Just because you aren't #1 on the slate doesn't mean you aren't in the top 150 on the NWL, or a needed number to fill the class profile.

Re applicant - I guess DD is not meant for WP. Gotta trust God knows what's He's doing and the path DD is it meant to go on.
Just wish its over soon
Pray for all candidates to get BFEs

As has been written in this thread and others, if your DD truly wants to attend West Point there are many paths. While there is no guarantee to reapplying, those who do so are viewed favorably.
1. As mentioned by tug_boat, Civil Prep School. Two of my brothers attended USNA this route.
2. Attend a civil university and reapply. Consider ROTC if going this route.
3. Enlist and reapply. The academies have a tough time filling all the slots set aside for enlisted personnel. The Army actually sends teams around to different installations and does 1 day application days. Using this route you do not need to serve your full enlistment before applying and/or attending, but if you are not accepted or do not qualify (say due to injury), you serve your full enlistment.

DS just received TWE...and it was actually a TWE through USPS. I'm sitting here sobbing and he is comforting ME. So hard to see. He's a freshman in college and just applied fully this year. He's still determined to go so he is going to continue with AROTC at his college while reapplying for class of 2022. He was going to be going to college for five years anyway (he's an engineering major), so he quips, "what's one more year if I can get into WP?" Love this kid...

Do they offer ROTC at his university? Taking it helps.
It's no guarantee, but have him look into enlisting in the Reserves or National Guard with a split training option as well.

He can also apply for the ROTC Scholarship. Your DS still has time and it's a full ride . I know he's crushed, and I know you're crushed, but college ROTC IS the best of both worlds.
