TWE's?

None of us has given up hope, especially DD, and I know it's only 2/21 and this board isn't totally representative but do they ever send out TWE's as they go? First choice would be appointment right now, obviously. Last choice would be a TWE on April 15 but above that would be a TWE now to mourn for a bit and then start to get excited about their plan B's. Just curious (and nervous).

TWEs will start to come out on a more frequent basis. Once the primary slates are resolved, they have a pretty good idea what the magic number will be for the NW and start sending those to the people that clearly are not close.
It will be similar to the admission offers process but with opposite answers. The first wave of appointments were the clear winners, the next wave was mostly competitive slates and then the last few that get in from other things. For TWEs, the first wave will be the candidates who were qualified by the skin of there teeth, then the large group from the competitive slates that are not high enough to get pulled off the NWL, then the last few that are right on the edge waiting for someone to decline or change their mind.

As long as you do not have one, you are still in the mix. Keep up the faith and work on Plan B

In the past, TWEs have been sent out somewhat in "waves." First are those who didn't complete 100% of their applications -- and those have already gone out. Next are those either who are missing a qualification (scholastic, medical or CFA) or w/o noms who aren't going to be offered NASS or Foundation. Then, toward the end of the process are those who are triple Q'ed with noms who didn't make the cut for an appointment. Those have historically come out from late March to April 15 and seems to hit in "waves" in that, on certain days, lots of people hear.

There will be a few awaiting medical clearance that are exceptions to the above. And some will go on the wait list.

Thank you, that helps.

OP, my DD is USNA 2019 and received her offer in Jan/Feb timeframe 2 yrs ago - I forget the exact date. Last year DS got his TWE on April 13, just about the latest it could come. So, unfortunately you may have to wait that long as there are definitely some that do come out at the very end as my DS experienced.

I know it's a tough wait and hope your DD hears soon. I'm sure she has great backup plans if USNA doesn't work out. BTW, my DS is happy with his plan B and will end up in the same position in 4 years as he would have been with USNA.

Yes, all of these kids are amazing and driven so I'm sure they'll be fine wherever they end up. DD's Plan B is many kids' hoped-for Plan A so she'll be fine. It's kind of funny, we're traveling to DC for spring break and she really wants to take a side trip and show off Annapolis to her 3 younger brothers. I asked her "So, you want to go there no matter what we've heard (or not heard) by then?" She says yes, she had such a great experience at NASS that she wants to see it again even if there are some tears.

Also...I think everything is now done by email/portal....so that is where notifications will be made for turndowns. "TWE" might now be obsolete.

AROTC-Dad. I like that a lot. I have thought about during the day--the kids go through all sorts of machinations to complete a service academy application and secure a nomination Because truly, if you listen to admissions at USNA, they want you to do 10 things...apply to USNA, 2 senators, 1 congressman, NROTC which means 5 colleges...not mention the myriad steps in the USNA application--letters of rec, three essays, CFA, DoDMERB. Not judging but it seems that such intense effort might receive something more formal than an email--like a TWE. I guess "No" is "No" no matter the form. Just call me Old School.

DrMom, what you just said is so true, most college students do not go through a process compared to what we SA candidates have to endure. In fact college application doesn't even hold a cookie to what SA app is. Even more painful is to wait for a very long time, while waiting there are some that are getting appointment and your not. Then out of nowhere in April you get a thin envelope from admissions saying that they were unable to give you a spot.:bang:

NOW THAT IS THE SPIRIT USNAHOPEFUL2...but as a mom, I want you to get more than an email. I cannot help it even if it is more cost efficient and faster. However, kids today...Best wishes Hopeful! Ready to celebrate your success!
