We are on our way to get DS twic card at the Louisville Ky office and I was checking the address with my phone when I found out it was closed due to flooding!! No problem, we will go to cincinnati..it is also closed due to flooding....hunington wv is open, so that's where we are headed!!

My advice....check before you leave!!! We got lucky!!

Susie, what a drag! I don't think I would have thought about it. Great tip! We will be driving to Louisville to pick Ds's up, I am so glad you posted this!

I am not sure about the way it works for y'all, but when I got my TWIC, I had to pick it up at the same office where I applied. If this is your first visit, then it won't be a problem.

Yes, you do have to pick it up at the same location you started the process at.

I wouldn't of checked either, but I needed the address to put in the GPS, we were half way there!!...what is too funny is West Virginia office is closed Friday....... so we were lucky!!

Something interesting......You do NOT have to pick up where you started the process....they are letting us pick up in Louisville when ready!! I'm glad West Virginia was sort of far........

SUZI...you are lucky. They may be doing that only because the other offices are closed due to natural disaster.

The rule is you have to pick up where you applied for the TWIC.

TSA website FAQ said:
Card Issuance

  • How will the cards be issued?
    • The applicant will be notified by email or phone, as specified during enrollment, when his/her credential is available at the enrollment center. Typically applicants will return to the same enrollment center as where they enrolled, unless they requested that their TWIC be shipped to another enrollment center (ideally they specify this at the time of enrollment).

Card Transfers

  • Can I enroll at one location, but request that my TWIC be delivered to another location? For example, can I enroll in New Orleans and have my TWIC shipped to Houston?
    • Yes, you can request that your TWIC be shipped to another enrollment center. If possible, you should specify this at the time of enrollment. This option also exists for replacement cards and should be requested at the time the replacement card is ordered.

  • Can I get my TWIC transferred from one enrollment center to another?
    • We encourage you to request that your TWIC be delivered to another location during the enrollment process. However, we understand that this request may come in after your TWIC arrives at the enrollment center. In these cases, you can request a transfer by calling the TWIC Help Desk at 1-866-DHS- TWIC (1-866-347-8942) or making the request via email at twic.helpdesk@lmbps.com (please specify that you are requesting a card transfer in the body of the email with location specifics). Your card should arrive at the requested enrollment center within 1-2 weeks.

Great point...and thanks!!!! I've read that stuff so much my head is spinning.

I stand corrected

You can tell by the number of 'frequently asked questions' on the TSA website that you're probably not alone in the 'head spinning' department:wink:

It will be interesting to see how renewals go in a couple of years. . . .

Total drivring time for DS to apply for and pick up his TWIC card: 8 Hours. Total time on site at the Albany NY center: 23 minutes. Go Figure.

With the job that I have, it isn't completely uncommon for me to spend a day (or more) to travel to the job site, then to only spend an hour or two actually working. Then, of course, spend another day or more getting back home.

Just picked up DS TWIC card in Louisville....took about 5 minutes!! So it worked picking it up at a different location than the one applied at. When DS applied they actually asked where he would like to pick card up at.

Passport DONE. TWIC DONE. Wisdom teeth. DONE. Now to tackle the list....

Albany TWIC Center

On the bright side MMAdad2015, you didn't have to go to the old Albany TWIC center which was hidden in the DOT building down at the port of Albany. The new location is, at least, close to the NY State Thruway. On the down side, you had to navigate Wolf Road which is never good! I used to work in the same building where the Albany TWIC center now is located and know several of the people in that office. I hope that you were treated well.

Just so everyone knows: if for some reason worst comes to worst and you can't get the TWIC card, the school WILL send groups of plebes at a time to the closest enrollment center in a government van with an upperclassman so that they can get their TWICs. They want you to do it prior to plebe year, but there are ALWAYS kids who don't get them until March or April of Plebe year.

Be Careful with this one...... At Open House in April we were told that they must come with their TWIC card....if not they would have to cut their Thanksgiving or Christmas leave time short so they could get one before they go home for holiday leave...........

I think that the key is to get the TWIC if you have the time. I am sure that there will be some folks, especially last minute alternates that won't have the time to get a TWIC. Like anything else, you should try to get things done as soon as you can. Remember, if any Plebe Candidate has time management issues now, they most likely will not if they make it through the program.
