Two files open

So I accidentally created a second file when attempting to apply to SLE a while back, as I completed the CQ a twice after I got an error message thinking it didn’t submit the first time - no thanks to USMA’s antiquated website. Anyways, a few days ago someone in admissions emailed me saying “OP, you currently have two files open and we require that you send us a copy of your social security card. We will close one of the files upon receipt of your card.”

I’m not sure if I’m comfortable emailing that info, and I’m also not sure if he means for me to physically mail a copy to admissions or email it. If anyone has been in such a situation I’d appreciate some insight, thanks.

In order to have two files open, the social security numbers have to be different (if you tried to open a second for same class with same social as one already open you would have been prompted to sign in to the original one). Now they need to have copy of your card to verify which one is in fact the correct application.

giving someone a copy of your social security card is no better or worse than telling someone your social security card. If you trust the organization you giving it to there should be no problem. The person on the other end can screw you over with your social security with a copy or not
