Hi all,

As the title says, I received two nominations, one from Rep. Ted Poe and another from Sen. John Cornyn for the Naval Academy and I don't really know what to do. Rep. Ted Poe sent his nominations early, so I have him as my nomination in the application portal. I am also applying to USAFA and I listed it as my second choice, so do you think it's possible to ask Sen. Cornyn to switch? Thank you in advance.

honestly, I've never heard of anyone having that happen, not to say it doesn't though. My thought process on the matter is this though. They can nominate up to ten people per slot. Odds are they already have, and that makes me think they won't be able to make that switch for you. Again, that's just my thinking and I hope someone can prove me wrong in your favor.

Texas is a large competitive state. Very unlikely to get a Senate nomination switched.

Not familiar with your congressional district, but only realistic possibility is if Rep. Poe didn't have enough candidates to nominate a full slate. Can't hurt to ask if you really want a USAFA option, but remember that having two nominations to USNA increases your chance of appointment by competing on two slates.

+1 to jl123, especially the comments on increasing your chances of appointment to USNA. I assumed it must have been your first choice only because both MOCs gave yo a nomination to that institution. Hedging is good when investing, not so much when pursuing your dreams.

It does happen. My friend's DS is living proof. He was in a competitive state (CO). At that time the MoCs talked and only gave 1 nom. He placed USAFA as his number 2, and USNA as number 1. He got a principal to USAFA from a Sen. He contacted the Sen. They in turn contacted the principal to USNA. That principal wanted USAFA as her number 1. In the end they swapped. He commissioned out of USNA and she out of USAFA.

For the thing that the OP needs to remember is if they opt to ask for it to switch and it happens they are taking a real risk if they truly want USNA over USAFA. Having 2 to your dream SA is different than 1 to both. 2 means 2 chances for an appointment before hitting the national pool. Thus, if you do get them to switch you are taking a risk that you won't be the number 1 on that 1 slate and now go to the pool for both SAs.
