Two nomination issue

I don’t understand why you are pushing this.
It MAY increase the candidate’s odds to be appointed. But It MAY NOT increase the odds at all.
I don't think @Dadx4 is 'pushing' anything at all. He is giving his thought on the subject, which is sort of what this whole board is all about...

He didn't mention odds at all in his post. He said that a candidate would have more opportunities to win a slate. I'm not quite sure why there needs to be an argument about this.

I am not looking for an argument either - and I apologize if it comes off that way.

I originally responded to a poster with “
It does nothing for you ... other than give you some positive spin to the ones evaluating you (which I think is huge) ... and give you another slate. All positive.” The other than is key fwiw.

The positive spin was for his honesty and integrity. As I originally wrote, the extra slate is a positive thing. It certainly gives another place to charge a candidate.

He disagreed with me and wrote “More nominations = more opportunity to compete. More competition = increase chance of appointment.”

This is nothing more than semantics. An increase chance of appointment certainly could be true for a candidate who wasn’t going to win his MOC slate but was extremely competitive enough to win the state slate. But it wouldn’t be true for the person who won the MOC slate, or who has an LOA, or is minimally 3Q and unlikely to win an appointment because of a low WCS score.

So I stand by it may increase the chance of appointment but also might not. Depends on the competition.

As far as the pushing comment - I take it back. I didn’t mean it to sound the way it does. It was in response to disagreeing with BGO PatternIsFull.

Aaaaand this is why there is no way for us in the cheap seats to opine on the admissions process. Poster don’t even agree on the rules of the game! Most people are logical creatures, and this process doesn’t follow a ‘one size fits all’ format. The MOC competition is all different. Then there’s athletic recruiting. And LOA’s. And diversity. And prior applicants. And ones being prepped. And the NWL. seriously, why even try and figure out a ‘chance’ with all those unknowns 🤷‍♀️

This process is COMPLETELY unique. Unlike unlike any other acceptance process. All the different pieces that go into an appointment cannot be put into a standard ‘box’.

Eyes forward. If you get an appointment it’s 100pct. If you don’t get one? It’s 0 pct. That’s outcome based.

Readers, seriously listen to CaptMJ. She is spot on. With tons of actual experience. Some people on this forum just like to be right and will argue their point to no end.....

Honestly when threads go this way, it’s an embarrassment.

I was just watching the agricultural hog markets, and a light bulb went on: this ‘debate’ reminds me of hog futures. Lots of similarities in futures trading.

I was told by an FFR (West Point) that multiple nominations increase the WCS (the FFR has been an FFR for 20+ years). But I've also read that they do not bump it up. Which is true?

I talked to an admissions officer during my candidate visit in April. Getting a nomination bumps your file up for review; when you get another one, it bumps it up again. I have no idea whether the WCS is increased, but it does get your name up there.

I would like to just congratulate all the kids who earned nominations, whether it be 1 or 5--- and know the process isn't going to change because we may or may not have an opinion about it. I for one am glad my kid applied for all sources. He and we, were humbled by the nominations he received. And we are in a state where Senators communicate. Am I relieved he has an appointment to USNA, absolutely.

The most important thing I have taken away from all of the forum threads I have read, is this: if it is outside of your control, let it go. I am not good at it, but I am trying. And when my kid has angst, I am reminding him of it that practice; we actually discussed it last night regarding a school policy he was frustrated with that is out of his control and sphere of influence.

Why stress or have angst over something that is out of your control or sphere of influence???? Some wise person said stressing about something is like paying interest on something you haven't bought yet (or something close to that). Bravo Zulu to all who are reaping the fruits of their labor.

The irony is that my DS is the one giving me the same advice as you're giving your son! ;)
