I feel I read some posts advocating purchasing 2 pairs of boots but the instructions only ask for one? Help!!

It's also a waste to get 2 pair now because undoubtedly they won't like the first pair and will change to a different brand altogether later. If they are lucky, they will get it right the first time.

You buy one, they issue one. After CBT you find some that you really like =) as the CBT ones are limited options.

Get the garmonts for beast if they are on the memo. They're probably going to be on it because they have been for the past few years. I did not get them three years ago and now I wear them exclusively along with most other cadets. You only need one pair though, they do not get destroyed that quickly and you will receive a second pair when you arrive.

kd8fdi, besides...after Beast wouldn't you say it's the low quarters you wear the most during the academic year and should make sure you have a good fit too?

Yes, you will wear low quarter 90% of the time. Big idea Im trying to get across is to not stress about packing. Get a good pair of boots that is comfortable and a fitting pair of low quarters to wear to class.

DD (and I would say good majority of AOG's at MMI) got the Garmonts. They were given list of authorized boots back in January and told to purchase and start breaking in. She really likes them and says they are much more comfortable than those that are issued.

Okay, what are low quarters? I have not seen the packing list yet and am clueless about all of this. Someone did tell me which of our local shoe stores was best for fitting/ordering them. Are they dress shoes? Short boots? Moon boots? Clogs? :)

Low quarters are non-shined leather dress shoes

You will wear your low quarters more than anything during academic year. Make sure they are well broken in!!!

They are also called oxfords.

Question: "What are low quarters?"

Answer: Low quarters are the excuse that USNA now gives as its reason for losing to Army in football. They are black shoes which BOTH USMA Cadets and USNA Mids wear on a daily basis. LOL.

As for boots, the CC should bring one pair, and they will be issued another pair on R-day, so each kid will end up with two pair of boots.

Last year was as miserable and happy as I have been at the same time. Wet, cold, yet grinning at the end. Well, I think I was grinning. I couldn't actually feel my face, so I just have to trust that seeing all those sad faces on the Navy side meant I had a smile.
