DS received a nom from one senator in November and then received a nom from the second senator about a week ago. In Texas, the senators try not to double nominate, so we were very suprised when he was nominated by the second senator. This week he received a call from the second senator's office asking if he would "give up" his nom since they didn't realize he already had a nom from the first senator. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what did you do? Of course, he gave back the nomination, but I hope he doesn't regret that later.

Thanks!

Most likely just a mix-up. Thanks for giving the nomination up, by the way. The second senator's office called my DS yesterday to offer him the nomination, which he accepted 'on the wire.'

It has happened before and most do what your DS did...they give it up. As stated it was a mix up.

Congrats on the nom.

Your DS already showed he understands the military motto...SERVICE BEFORE SELF!

Nomination

My son is at a SA right now and three years ago he received a nomination from Senator Cornyn AND our US Congressman. We were also asked to give up our senatorial nom which we did. After HS graduation Senator Cornyn was nice enough to sponsor a luncheon for candidates in Texas who had been nominated and received appointments from ALL sources. Nice gesture by the Senator's office!

Thanks for the kind words! DS read the posts last night and got a big smile on his face.

Nominations

Engineer - what congressional district in Texas are you in?

Two years ago (seems like yesterday) my son received nom from our Congressman here in 13 th district in Texas. Late January, Sen Hutchison's office called and left him a message saying he had her nom also. When he returned the call after school, the gal told him he got the nom AND they had just been notified that he was getting an appt!! He even called them back to make sure he understood correctly, which he had indeed. Curiosity got the best of me so I called them a couple days later and asked how/why this happened. She said Hutchison chooses 5 in Nov, then they try to coordinate with MOC's but not all MOC's bother to respond. Then her committee chooses 5 more in late January. She said they would never ask for the nom back. She also said Cornyn's office tells the others who they select....they don't truly "coordinate.". She also said they have tried to "cohost" the event Cornyn puts on for all appointees, but his office did not want to share! Apparently even Congressmen/women have turf wars!

You know what they say about "never say never".....They did in fact ask my son to give the nomination back. Jennyp - I am hoping his outcome is the same as your son's!

Last year, my son received nominations from Cornyn, Hutchison, and his local representative. After the call from Cornyn's office with congratulations, they did later take the nomination back to award it to someone else. We did attend the meet and greet which was a nice gesture.

DS is the proud owner of a very official letter (one that will look very nice in a frame) from Senator Hutchison congratulating him on his nomination, even though he is no longer the proud owner of that nomination :shake:

Who knows what they think! I will tell you, engineer, that your son must be a great candidate to have earned H's nom........often 400+ apply. Keep those fingers and toes crossed!

I had heard numbers close to 600 for the Texas senators, although I do not know if that is per SA or for all SA's combined.

OK So what are the 3 "Qs" that everyone is talking about--medical, academic, and _____?? Do you have to be 3Q before an appointment is offered, or will the academy (possibly) offer an appointment while waiting for a waiver? Just wondering!

micheleguy, I'm pretty sure the third Q is physically--meaning you have to pass the CFA, and possibly have had some sports during HS showing physical activity. I don't know about the waiver/appt. question. Sorry.
