I feel like there's none left  --still waiting here.

So Cornyn is notifying his noms by phone mostly...right? Following up with a letter?

Yes, Senator Cornyn's office contacted my son on his cell phone on 11/30/09 and stated that they would followup with a letter.

Just received the phone call from Senator Cornyn's office (it's Dec 3). My son's nomination is for the AFA.

That is my impression, yes. I got the phone call a while ago, and still haven't received a letter.

Did anybody else get a nomination from him to USMA? There's no way I'm the only one.

I haven't recieved a phone call or letter yet, but when I checked my USAFA application page yesterday it showed that I had recieved a nomination from Cornyn!

I don't think that Kay Bailey Hutchison sends out letters until the middle of January.

is there anyone out there that lives in the 28th district? I did my interview with Cuellar's office back on dec. 4, and was told by the three colonels doing the interview that I had really good credentials. To top it off, I got a LOA from West Point (my first choice) the following monday. Then the next week I get a rejection letter from Cornyn. Then the day after that i get a rejection letter from Cuellar. Still haven't heard anything from Hutchison. I was pretty puzzled after getting the thumbs down from Cuellar since I figured it a district that's not as competitive (has mainly rural border counties in it where practically no one lives). To top it off the guys he had doing the interview practically told me I was in (not trying to brag or exaggerate, that pretty much the way it was). I'm really worried since getting one from Hutchison seems like a long shot. I've got a backup with a NROTC scholarship to A&M, but getting into West Point has been a really big deal for me since I was in the third grade, so its been pretty frustrating.

Anyways here's some info on me if you guys have any tips

FFA member as well (went to state in one of their career developement competitions and regionals in their leadership developement competitions)

writer for school newspaper

also, i did some snooping around on the WP parents website for south texas, and i figure from the list of cadets on there that Cuellar should have had at least one slot open at west point, which means he could have nominated up to ten people this year at least. And when you figure in that he probably had vacancies open at both Annapolis and USAFA as well, that adds up to at least 30 nominations. i saw the list of people to be interviewed on the day that i went in for my interview, and there was only about 30 people on it. so naturally ive been quite worried these past few weeks, since i heard there were as many as 800 applicants to Hutchison's office :frown: . Anyways any tips or info onto how many slots were open this year with the 28th or Hutchison or what the odds are with getting a nom from Hutchison would be greatly appreciated. Also I got an LOA from the Naval Academy just the other day.

2010 - after reading your story I can see why you are puzzled and concerned! It seems to me that you were an outstanding candidate for Cuellar's nomination. Since Texas is such a competitive state, could it be that Senator Hutchison is intending to give you a nom, and Cuellar's staff didn't want to duplicate it? I am pretty sure that Senator Hutchison has notified some of her nominees but not all. You might consider contacting Senator Hutchison's and Cong. Cuellar's offices, letting them know your concerns, and seeing if you can get any further information. I really don't think it could hurt, and could help if for some reason you've fallen through the cracks. This is so important to your future that it pays to be your own advocate. Just be polite and respectful, and maybe you'll get some good news soon. Best of luck - and NROTC at A&M is an awesome backup plan! :thumb:

I was concerned about Senator Hutchison too as we hadn't heard anything, but I read somewhere maybe on her web page that most of her nominations don't go out until late Jan/Feb time frame so hang in there...

I just posted this up on the USMA forum, but it seems like it moght be relevant here:

FWIW, I pulled out my son's file from last year and the letter he got from Sen. Hutchison was dated February 12. He already had a nomination and so he did not get her nomination. Here is the relevant paragraph: "Although you were evaluated by the Academy Selection Board, my office learned that XXX nominated you to the United States Military Academy. In an effort to maximize the number of Texans attending the United States Service Academies, I nominated another applicant to the academy."

Seems pretty clear that she will be nominating candidates who don't otherwise have nominations so don't give up hope!

Yeah, that's basically what I've got to remember, to just keep being patient. I was kind of worried though because I thought I read that some people had already heard back from Hutchison. In a way I just kind of wish she would hurry up and send me something, whether it be good news or bad news, so I can be put out of my misery.

I had contacted Cuellar's office though, and didn't get any good info other than "all slots had been filled" and that it was a year of "very high competition." :frown:

My son recieved a call and then a letter dated 11/06/2009 from Senator Hutchison's office with his nomination. I would contact the nominations coordinator, they are usually very helpful.
