Cornyn's office called me earlier today during practice. I wasn't able to reply to the voicemail that instructed me to call back until they were closed. I'll call first thing tommorow, but this is a little nerve wracking, esp. since a few friends from Boys State got their noms today.

Anyone else hear back from Cornyn or Hutchison? I read somewhere that TX senators "talk" to house reps to ensure nobody receives two noms. I hope I misread, because that..well... sucks. My MOC interview is this saturday

Yep, I found out today that I got a nomination from Hutchison for USNA, so it looks like those notifications are starting to go out. Good luck!

Yes they do. I received one of Cornyn noms yesterday. Not 2 hours after I found out my house rep SA coordinator called me to cancel my interview, which is this Saturday as well. I asked for the rationale behind this but got nothing more than "this is our policy. Sorry". I even asked if I could still try for my 2nd choice and got the same answer......

So what did I gain by applying to TX Senators? A nomination, sure. I'm honored to be selected out of 100s of applicants. But now I'm stuck on one of the most competitive slates in the nation and I can't even apply for my own MOCs nom, whose slate is undoubtedly less competitive . This wasn't on any website.:eek: Future applicants beware....

Shawn - the answer to your question is that it depends on your MOC. Last year, DS received nominations from Senator Cornyn, Senator Hutchison, and Congressman Hall. He received an "oops, do you mind giving up your nomination" call from Senator Hutchison's office because it is the policy for the Senators not to duplicate nominations. Some of the other MOCs follow this policy and some don't. If you are worried, you can always call the MOCs office and ask. They haven't cancelled the interview, though, so maybe that is a good sign.

Nom from Senator Hutchison!

Happy to report that Raptor received a nom (on the unranked slate) from Senator Hutchison!

No word yet from Senator Cornyn's office either way... Anyone know if all applicants hear one way or another, or is it just the ones who are selected?

Also, he hasn't heard anything from Congressman Hall's office--hoping to hear something about the interview schedule.

Congrats to those who are one step closer...and to all: keep the faith! :thumb:

This can play out different every year and in every district. In a perfect Texas, our Senators do not wish to duplicate nominations with the MOC's throughout the state. However, it doesn't always work out that way. A lot depends upon the staff in any MOC's office. Our MOC and several others (this was three years ago) didn't bother to respond to Senators H and C when they inquired to ask who had been nominated. Maybe the staff got busy, whatever...... Son wound up with two nominations due to this.

Also, USNAHopeful2016, you are not at a great disadvantage to be on Senator C's slate and not on your local MOC, although you perceive the local slate to be "less competitive."

Let's say the first one off each slate is selected. And that is not you. So, at that point, the remaining nine go into the national pool....and if your logic holds that the MOC slate is less competitive, then those nine nominees are pooled into a "tougher" pool, whereas you, on the statewide Senator slate are coming, theoretically, from the stronger slate and should be better positioned in the national pool. At that point, it all boils down to your Whole Person Score.......

I do not believe it would have been wise to NOT apply for the Senator's nominations, assuming you could get onto the MOC's slate.......that's mighty risky!

Ah, received a "regret to inform you..." letter from Cornyn today. Not real concerned; my district is possibly the least competitive in the state. There are folks that need Senate nominations far more than me.

Not to say it isn't stressful, but it's one less thing to worry and wait on.

Same here. Got rejected! :shake: :shake: :shake: (Probably cause of my SAT/ACT scores I had a 570 math and 470 reading)
