A little incite for U of I... my son committed to Purdue engineering and at the last moment (May 3rd) was awarded the Children of Veterans’ Scholarship which waives the full instate tuition at U of I. My son didn’t want to go to U of I but we pressured him due to being able to graduate with no debt. He’s a junior and tells me every time that that is the best decision he has ever made. He loves the school, loves that it is less than3 hours away (he’s coming home tomorrow afternoon just to vote- then heading back) And he has met so many kids that will come out with close to $100,000 of debt. Go the no debt route. Your kid might push back at first, but you know in the end what is right.
