As I anxiously wait for the third selection board to convene on 3/19, I was wondering if someone could explain to me the different types of ROTC Scholarships. Thank you!

UPDATE: I'm looking for an explanation to the different types (tiers?) of Army ROTC scholarships as I have very little knowledge pertaining to the subject. Thank you!

Army pretty much doesn't care what your major is and there is no "tier" system with AROTC. Navy has 3 tiers and AFROTC has technical majors vs non-technical majors. Applicants to the AROTC program may receive a 4 year or 3 year scholarship.

You do need permission to change your major. Changing the first time is pretty much not a problem. Changing a second time might be problematic. I think what they're really concerned about is that despite the major change, you will still graduate on the same schedule.

So there isn't "tiers" for AROTC. You have the national board (which you are competing in) and they typically hand out 4 yr and 3 yr scholarships. Then you have "campus-based" scholarships. These scholarships are earned through the ROTC unit itself. To earn a campus based scholarship you need to work hard and get good grades, high apft (280+), and show that you want to be apart of rotc i.e. showing up to pt, labs, volunteering for details, answering emails and texts in a timely manner.

The army has increased the monthly stipend to $420 per month for all cadets on the scholarship. If you do not get a national scholarship, but you do get into a college that has rotc, go straight to their office and see if they have 4 year campus scholarships. Reason
My son got the national 4 year one.
His friend did not apply but has extremely high scores ; over 1400 SAT, 4.25 GPA, ranked in two sports (wrestling and cross country). He got onto a college and called the ROTC guy yesterday to ask about ROTC and was told immediately he would qualify for a 4 year campus scholarship.
The national scholarships maybe for 4, 3 or 2 years. The campus scholarships maybe for 4, 3.5, 3 and 2 years.

My DS also did not apply for the national AROTC scholarship while in HS.

He was a "walk on" cadet at his college and quickly earned a 3 year AROTC campus based scholarship, which was later extended to 3.5.

He commissions in 2019.

Anyone heard in March of 2018 yet from the third board of a three year army ROTC scholarship recipient having the scholarship changed to a 3.5 or 4 year? I believe announcements will be made this week. Thanks.

I am on this forum for the same reason... my son has not heard yet from the third board.. when he logs in to the dashboard it shows application for next year instructions... I am guessing this is not a good sign? For the first two boards though, it showed he was not selected... now he sees nothing. Wanting to know because the Major at the military college he wants to go to said to go see him if he didn't get the scholarship... that he might have one specific to their school he could give him! Want to jump on this as soon as we hear for sure from the third board!

Another thread stated, from an authoritative source, that the third board is complete but offers have not been made yet.
Thank you for the info. Will the website reflect "Winner" if an offer is to be made, or will the school call the applicant first?

Beats me. If it were me I would be checking the website and email until I got a phone call.

Can you link that other thread? Hoping to still hear that my daughter's 3 year has changed to 3.5 or 4 year with the third board, but nothing on her portal yet so am thinking that means "no". Still Very thankful for the three year though!
