Hello all,

I have been accepted to UCSD and I have noticed that they themselves do not have a NROTC program on their campus but USD does and UCSD is a cross town affiliate. I know what cross town affiliate means, could anyone tell me if it would be worth contacting the USD unit and explaining I am interested in doing NROTC but didn't apply to USD.

It is 1000% worth your time. Absolutely! My DS attends UWM and does cross-town NROTC at Marquette. It confirmed his interest in military and made him a much better applicant for the Class of 2023. He reports for Plebe Summer on June 27th.

Definitely worth pursuing. UCSD, SDSU and USD all are fairly close to each other but traffic in the San Diego area can be challenging. However, the proximity to Pendleton and Naval facilities make it very attractive. Plus can you ask for a better climate?

Best source of info is at the NROTC HQ at USD.

Both UCSD and USD are in the La Jolla area (west San Diego) and will be really close to each other and won’t be that bad of a commute. Considering that San Diego is one of the most prominent naval communities in America I’d imagine there’s unique exposure there that you won’t get from other NROTC programs. Congratulations and best of luck.

And USD recently voted most beautiful college campus in the US. It would be hard to argue with that vote. USD actually located more south central San Diego on top of a hill north of Mission Valley. Basically a 360 panoramic view of everything.

USD's campus is pretty great. So is UCSD's and PLNU's.

If you have any SD questions feel free to reach out (I'm from there).
