Hello, I was recently awarded a 4-year NROTC scholarship. An officer told me that as a college student with less than a certain amount of credits, that I could still apply online (netfocus) for the 3 year scholarship. Is this correct? I contacted the guidance counselor for NROTC already. Any college students have the same experience? Thanks!

I listed UMBC (first time to have NROTC) as the school of my choice. Anyone accepted there as well?

I don't understand why, if you've been awarded a 4 year scholarship, you would apply (again) for a 3 year scholarship? What am I missing?

I believe I should have been awarded a 3 year instead of a 4 year. This was my first time applying for the NROTC as a college freshmen in community college.

When you say you were informed by an officer, do you mean one of the NROTC Cadre at UMBC? Or do you mean a recruiter?

They don't know how to award a 3 year via the HSSP but they will treat it as a three year. This is because the pool of money to cover it doesn't kick in until Fall 2016. If you have any questions or concerns address them with your unit. They should have the straight skinny and I'm sure they'll be happy to help in any way.

I was informed by a George Washington University NROTC recruiter. I had to contact the office there because the unit in UMBC I believe is not even set up. They do not have a website or anything. I am unsure what step to take so I will continue contacting the GWU/Georgetown Unit. Thank you kinnem.

Got it cleared. The counselor/officer in Pensacola informed me that it was not uncommon that college students get awarded these scholarships. She did state that "there will not be any retroactive payment for tuition that has already been paid prior to activation of your scholarship". I am unsure of what this means.

That means you will not be reimbursed by NROTC for tuition paid for the college you have already attended thus far.

I think it also means they will not pay tuition until the Fall of 2016, 'activation of scholarship' being the key phrase (in my eyes). It wouldn't hurt to clarify further with Pensacola I suppose.
