My son has a 4 year Army ROTC scholarship. In Oct 2019 he dislocated his shoulder playing varsity football. He did not require surgery and after PT he was cleared by his doctor and returned to sports, playing varsity lacrosse for what season they squeezed in before school was cancelled due to covid. He is completely functional and pain free, working out daily. Today he received a letter from DODMERB telling him he is under waiver review for a single disqualification: his shoulder. I'm assuming someone is going to decide whether or not he is fit to serve due to this injury. My questions are, is there anything we can do as we await this decision; and how likely is it that waivers are given for this type of injury? Thank you.

Very common waiver. My son got one, he had surgery to repair a torn labrum.
Wait for DoDMERB to ask for specific information.
Only send what they ask for.

JMC - Your son, the applicant should google "DoDMERB." Hit Questions about the Process" on the home page. Read paragraphs 11,13,15-19, 21 :wiggle:

Thank you. I will pass this information along to him.

Thank you. That's good to know. My son did not need surgery just physical therapy. I was kind of in shock to read his letter about not medically qualifying due to his shoulder, but knowing this is a common waiver is helpful. Thank you.

Shoulders are important....each shoulder injury is different...the impacts on a specific individual are equally as varied :wiggle:
