My wife was notified by her HR dept yesterday that someone filed an unemployment claim as her. She works for a small company so it was fortunately caught. She reported it to the state, and it was recommended that she look at her SSA online account to be sure there is no unusual activity or 1099 income. Just throwing it out there as a PSA.

Same - notified several months back. My guess is that this is a numbers game and they are blasting claims out there and seeing what gets paid.

As part of a refi of our house recently, some strange questions arose from our lender. Which led to me checking our credit report.

Some very interesting activity, that I was never alerted to, bc they were paying things off. And haven’t opened credit in my name.

Turns out, one of the big three had transcribed a number related to this person. So all their activity was listed as me. Wow. Had no clue. Interestingly, I had to dispute each line item. Resolution was in my favor. But it’s all still listed there. Which annoys me 🙄

Check your credit reports. I admittedly have failed to regularly do so, but am adding it as a financial checklist item during tax season.

Another PSA reminder.
