My 16 year old son just received the DQ letter from Dodmers due to unexplained syncopal ( fainting) episode which occurred 2 years ago. We submitted EKG and Catscan results from the ER from that ER visit. Testing results were normal. The ER Dr thought he was fainting posibble due to dehydration due to a severe cold / Strep the day before. But he did not put it in writing....? Is there anything that we can do? His ultimate dream is crashing as we speak....waiting for a waiver from USMMA. We are waiting for a miracle! Please advice. thx so much

DS was is the same situation. He ended up going to a retired Navy Neurologist in private practice who examined, tested and eventually cleared him (in his opinion) for service and wrote a letter stating such. That did the trick and DS was cleared by DoDmerb, though this was a remedial situation, not after a DQ.
Best of luck to your son!

You might want to consider contacting DoDMERB Consultants.

Dr/CAPT Merchant is a retired DoDMERB Director who was also a former Navy Surgeon and USMC pilot.

2nd that suggestion...he found the Navy doc for my son. DS enjoyed working with him very much.

His LOA was withdrawn today due to Medical DQ..very sad...Waiver Status is pending....we are running out of time this year...But Dr Merchant is very helpful to guide us for next year clearance....my boy will attend a state university with a full scholarship....he will be taking electrical engineering classes while reapplying for next year! Persistence and Patience ...

Updated info: We tracked down his ER treating physician who was willing to write an addendum explaining his fainting was caused by a dehydration...we turned it into Dobmers but I doubted that they will look at it now since his case is in the WA.....a valuable lesson is taking the medical exam as early as your child can...we waited till first week of January....

Yes, DS jumped through many medical hoops to get to this point...but right when it seemed all the ducks are in a row, he's dealing with what appears to be a false positive TB test today...hang in there....

How did this situation turn out? I am currently dealing with syncope related remedials.

My DS went thru AMI for two instances of syncope episodes. We supplied medical records that showed he was ill with flu at one time and then another it was from a rapid growth period where he didn't have enough blood volume and he stood up too fast. (recommendation was to increase salt intake) He eventually had to go to doctor for a statement regarding these two episodes but they were quickly cleared with the documentation that was provided. We used our family doctor for this as he knew him best with his history. Good luck.

Wondering how these situations turned out - my daughter just received a DQ today for this...
