help--

I have2 blanks left to fill out on the uniform paper--Knee--exact width desired from existing regulation trousers and bottom exact width desired...what's regulation and how do you answer that for Navy uniforms?

that's all that is need and i can send out this awful:unhappy: pkg

thanks

Any chance of being more specific?

Gosh, I don't remember having to complete anything like that during my 10 years in uniform. What's this for?

ETA:

If I am reading correctly...

Navy uniform trousers drop straight down with no flares. Normally, they come right down to the shoe and just barely touch it, but not so much as to cause a break (or at most a very slight one) like you see in the civilian world. Properly hemmed, the trousers should cover the top of the shoe all the way around, be parallel to the deck. yet not be too short.

I have no clue how the knee comes into this...

Hey Zaph

Thanks for taking a stab! This Uniform Measurement page has 17:eek: different measurements and request that they be taken by a qualified tailor..
My s went to a suit/tux store and they took the measurements--but were as baffled as we are about "KNEE: exact width desired from existing regulation trousers" I believe i will take a width measurement in a pair of dress pants both at the knee and bottom--which my guess would be the same?

And I thought the FBI clearance pages were tough! Your advice at a different post to me and S was heeded as he is taking the NROTC scholarship at Tulane! Unsure of the rotc program there--but the school and campus and orientation we just got back from was VERRY impressive..

However, He told me on the plane going to New Orleans--that he called his BG officer and is going to re-apply to the Academy! Yeeha--more paperwork! But I do hope he can fulfill his dreams...He's taking calculus, physics, chemistry, english and i don't remember what else--but is going the engineering route--The problem at Tulane is that there is no mechanical or civil engineering available anymore--just bio med and chemical...

And by the way--this site is AWESOME!!! didn't know it existed til just lately!!

thanks again for the reply! I would feel extremely stupid calling the Navy guys with questions like these!

That would be my guess. In fact, it's the only one that makes any sense: you take a pair of existing trousers that meet regs, and measure accordingly.

Yes, the leg will be straight, so the knee and cuff should be the same measurement.

Glad I was able to help.

Smart Kid!

Just don't say it too loud, or some here will jump on you for trying to go USNA from NROTC. :thumb:

Thanks. We're trying to make it a worthwhile place to be. If we can just get USNA69 to behave himself... :yllol:

Imagine how I would feel! I WORE the darn' uniform for TEN YEARS and I have no idea what they are talking about.

I think you are correct. I would just find a nice set of dress pants that look proportional on him and measure them.

Sounds like you have a motivated son. Keep him that way.

I wonder if that uniform measurement package goes out to every NROTC mid. RofCMom if you don't mind please give a heads up on the paperwork if you have time.

Re: NROTC Tulane - the 2nd in command at my son's NROTC unit at MIT/Harvard graduated NROTC Tulane. I don't know what his major was but my son really respects him and got good reports about the unit at Tulane.

Tulane (isn't it in the top 50?) is a great school and I'll bet your son will have no problem getting his choice of service selection if he stays for four years.

When does he report for indoc?

sealion--of course we only know about our own package--but it was extremely tedious--especially the FBI clearance papers--had to go back 7 years and give addresses and neighbors and phone #s--H is a builder, so we lived at 4 houses in past 7 years!! We were able to download from Tulane NROTC site--fill in most electronically and and print--there is a uniform document at that site if you are interested...The two docs that we couldn't fill in electronically were actually the FBI and uniform one---The entire package takes 3-4 hours (at least for us!) and then we had to actually order a certified birth certificate, get Transcripts (another set from the ones sent to school) and picture...

That's great to hear good things about Tulane's rotc unit--i do know that they host a mardi gras drill meet every year and all navy rotc's participate--pretty cool!

S reports Tuesday, August 21--he gets sworn in--then we don't see him til Saturday when they have a field meet and picnic for parents--they even move into dorms WITHOUT US!! (YEAH!)

Wish i know how to work the Quote thing:redface: But i will figure it out soon enough--

Z--love your responses
usna69--thanks for the encouraging words--son still has head down about not getting into 1st choice--but he is adjusting slowly but surely--and comments from you and Z and sealion really do help!!!

So VERRY happy to find a place for ROTC parents--I don't feel so isolated!!!

Correction

I made a mistake in post #6. The Officer who went NROTC at Tulane serves in the MIT/Harvard/Tufts unit as a Naval Instructor and upperclass adviser.

I don't know where the 2nd in command went. I hope nobody lost any sleep over that.
