I am headed back to the DC area on business and I figure to Boondoggle some time with DD in Annapolis. While I am there, I was thinking of taking her to see a tailor. Yes, I know that USNA has tailors available.

DD has her Moms small waste and chest, toped by seriously big shoulders. The USNA's Uni solution has been to put her into a coat that fits her shoulders and pull it in radically at her midsection (enough that it shortens the coat!). It looks pretty bad. I got her into a tailor on a recent visit home and the guy just grinned and said he couldn't fix what she had. She needed a new coat that addressed her unique build. He wasn't trying to "sell me" he knew we didn't have time for him to make her a Uni.

DD has worked really hard toward a service selection goal that I think will have her in Dress Blues n Whites more than most this summer. I'd like her to think she looks good in her Uni, when she puts it on. I remember buying suits off the rack as a young man with a jacket that fit my shoulders and pants with a waist 6-7 inches larger than I needed. They would pull in the waist to fit, but the inseam always ended at mid thigh (I looked like MC Hammer). I'd like to help fix this for her.

So, for the USNA local brain trust, any recommendations for a tailor with exp in tailoring Navy Uniforms in the Annapolis or DC area?

I am assuming that the Uniform she has now isn't gonna change when she moves from a Mid to Ensign (just insignia change); is this Correct?

Thanks

Where I went. Where flag officers go. Where they know the regs and know how much room to allow for the sword belt.

I had athletic shoulders (size 12 jacket) and a 8-10 rest of me. Uniforms that fit my shoulders hung in folds around my mid-section.

Call, though, as things do change.

She probably doesn’t want to buy new uniforms now but when she commissions she can. Many do. The initial tailoring at USNA is done very quickly to get 1200 Mids in uniform quickly. They also do generic tailoring like waist darts during Plebe Summer because it’s fast, easy and many Mids loss weight. Also many Mids, especially the young men, grow and fill out. So to allow that room down the road it helps to do generic tailoring. She can go to the tailors now and really get them to tailor her uniforms right. And it’s free! They will take the time to remake a leg if needed. I would recommend she start there then look at other options.

Perfect, U 2 are always great help. Thankyou!

I will pass the word to DD re the USNA Tailors, and keep the Marlowwhite ref. in my pocket for her.
