Hello all- My son is a new appointee starting in June, class of 2020. We just received his his welcome packet and I was hoping someone could help us out with a question for retired military families that are currently under UHC/Tricare Prime. Currently, I understand that he will have to be transferred to Tricare standard at the school, but the primary health care provider must be within 10 mile of the school. After going to the UHC/Tricare website, I cannot fine a primary physician within even 25 miles. I was hoping their is a retired AD family on this board that can tell me what our options are. I'm certain I can get most of these answers UHC/Tricare opens on Monday, but I still planned to ask for advice on this board. I did do a search of the forums and could not find the answers to the questions below.
1. Are the students pretty much forced to by the school provided medical plan?
2. Can I purchase the school plan, but also leave him enrolled in the Tricare plan, so he has the 100 percent coverage option when he is back on leave? Legalities of double coverage?
3. Is there anyone with a child at the school currently using Tricare standard, and if so, can you tell me the name and number of that provider?
4. Can anyone name a local health care provider they would recommend for their daughter or son?
5. Can anyone name a good local dentist?
6. Please feel free to bring up anything I may be missing in my questions.
Thanks in advance all. Ron

There are plenty of people on tri-care standard and have no problems. Join National USMMA Parents, Alumni and Friends Information facebook group to connect with experienced parents who can provide details.

You can retain both coverages. Coordination of benefits rules apply per your provider. I know someone who has both the school one and Tricare. It works if the claims are submitted properly. But if not, it can become a tangled web.

No dentist at school any longer? I know the health care insurance requirements have certainly changed since my day, so I won't comment. But I have to say that they had great dental care onboard back then. Except for the teeth cleaning. . . they were students from a local girls college. What they did to our gums was more than made up for by their charm. But no kidding. The onboard dentist was superb.

There's absolutely still a dentist at KP.
