Hi all,

Just a quick question: I think everyone knows that commissioned Navy ships used the prefix USS, which stands for United States Ship. I am curious if the term United States Ship is ever used anymore. I have never really heard it, just USS. Anybody have any info or experiences that involves this?

I know the Navy likes to say "warship ####" over the radio. We would just respond with "Navy ship ####". HAHA, we'd drop the "war" part just to get on their nerves.

I have not heard USS spelled out. I have heard USCGC spelled out.
