Any insight on CU Boulder's AROTC Program? Anyone else thinking of going to CU Boulder?

my DD and i toured there beginning of March but ROTC wasn’t available... it is her top choice besides SAs but will need a scholarship bc we are out of state. She is only a junior right now though

I'm on a number of FB groups with parents from students there, and three themes of comments I see is that the participants in rotc love the program overall, love the school, and call it PT but they are often handed a shovel to move snow at 5AM - "builds character" and all but they at-times feel a little like the inside-out program prisoners at Shawshank:)

I was originally going to go there with a 4 yr from the army for fall of 2020 but didn't get my top choice major and didn't like the communication from the school and the unit. They didn't make an effort to answer my questions, congratulate me for the scholarship or even get in touch with me at all when I accepted it to their school. Didn't feel welcomed at all. I ended up transferring the scholarship to Syracuse and they have been extremely welcoming and supportive (and kicked in 16,000 a year for 4 years for housing, on or off campus). CU was my first choice but I got an uneasy feeling when I was talking to them and decided to switch. Very happy with my decision now but will be missing out on the beautiful location.

I’m putting on my recruiter hat. Montana State is cheaper for out of state than instate at CU. Has a phenomenal engineering program. And is in a more beautiful location with 2 ski hills within 45min (and no Eisenhower tunnel to fight through with 1million of your friends). Just saying. Give us a look.

CU Boulder is a great campus and an excellent school. It has a rep for being a bit of a party school, but I'm sure your kid would make wise decisions. I was impressed with our tour. It's on my son's list of choices (but for AFROTC).
Also, we have many ski mountains nearby - as opposed to those "2 ski hills" in Montana. :) (Montana is beautiful, we almost settled in Bozeman after my wife's retirement from the AF.)

I have to concur, and the cadre and recruiter there were incredibly helpful and friendly when we visited last year.

This was my experience with their ROTC department as well... less than impressive but I decided to look past it and select CU anyways for the location and the school itself.

Are you class of 24 or are you a current student there?
