Unsolicited ROTC scholarships?

I recall way back in the application process, that our DS was solicited by his congressional staffer for permission to forward (anyone applying to the academies and involved in the nomination process) his info on to AROTC “should he not secure an appointment” We inquired about why this was happening and if I recall, the response was that it was something new, to recruit kids to apply AROTC. DS declined as he wasn’t interested.

I wonder if some similar permission was granted by your son? Or I wonder if some MOC’s forwarded on info without requesting permission?

I’m not sure but that’s the insight I recall from our experience.

Curious if either of your sons are interested?

My son said that he was interested which surprised me.....he passed on his USMMA appointment to go to a traditional 4 year school (having received TWEs from USAFA and USMA).

Mine is doing due diligence on the offer.

He already has NROTC 4 -year and several scholarships from Citadel so it's not a 'need' to be able to pay for school.

Mine received a 3 year after TWE, which would've kicked in for his 2nd year at UNG...but he reapplied to WP and got in. It's legit...we even spoke to the head of cadet command at the time. If you are high on the NWL, you might get such an offer. It's especially good for the school as they know you already passed DoDMerb and will have no surprises there.

THIS IS A BIG DEAL! Congrats! All tuition, fees, and a stipend. He certainly impressed on the way. In four years it really won't matter where he commissions from. A full ride.

Our plan B was Norwich. Beautiful place. Very well organized and they cater to the scholarships.

Good for him!

Go Army!

I can confirm that this also happened to my DD the year she did not get in. It is a little late in the process but you cn make it work. Your son needs to reach out to the recruiting coordinator at the college he is most interested in. If I remember correctly, you have a short period of time to accept and identify the college you want to attend.

It happens every year to a select few who were declined by the academy. Not sure how it happens, but it happens.

He has until 7/6 at midnight to accept but he's going to stick with his NROTC Scholarship and Citadel Leadership Scholars package already has in motion - though the higher monthly stipend was tempting.

I guess his e-mail has exploded with ROTC units offering assistance at onboarding to their programs.

It probably happens when the kids who do get into the academies and accept their appointments it frees up the ROTC scholarship for somebody else...Dodmerb is the same so their names are already in the system....but yes they usually have a week to pick a school that they've been accepted to and I believe if a deposit has not been made that may be required to. Need to call admissions of said school and the ROTC people there

It is probably also students that look good for the academies and for one reason or another didnt get it. Wanting them as officers, they offer them the scholarshipos

So if my DS is pursuing USMA do we have to also apply to AROTC separately? I seem to recall we checked a box that he wished to also apply to AROTC on his SLE application.

Yes he needs to apply for AROTC scholarship separately.
The case of USMA applicants getting denied an appointment and later offered AROTC scholarship is rare not the norm. If your DS wants AROTC, definitely apply!
