Unsure whether to feel excited or scared…

Hello all!
As we near this final week of decisions, I am in a tough spot: I am unsure whether I should look forward to portal updates, or dread them.
It seems like the chance of getting an appointment this late in the game is slim to none, just because of circumstance, but, at the same time, I feel optimistic that a miracle could happen and I could still get an appointment.
I’m not sure what I’m trying to say, but I think my big question is: should I be getting my hopes up for an appointment this week, or are NAPS and waitlist most likely the best-case scenario?
If any past parents, plebes, etc. have had experience with this, or received appointments this late in April, I would love to know/hear any advice :)
Thank you!

I think there is hope. We have heard through the grapevine of turn-downs in our area as recent as last week. We are trying to hold on to hope that if our applicant wasn't turned down in that round, she is still in the running. Fingers crossed for you!!

So I may have pulled all the nominations from the last 5 years into a spreadsheet….. I can tell you that on average about 20% of the appointments reported here are reported in or after April. I can also see that this year appointments have been reported on this site at a slower rate than other years. Neither of those are definitive, but they are reasons to keep hope alive.

Thanks for posting this - I remembered seeing a spreadsheet or graph at some point but wasn't sure where to find it- this makes it feel like it is definitely worth holding on to hope for sure!!!

I appreciate this so much, you have no idea! Thank you!

One thing you learn in military life is ‘the worst thing they can do is say no.’ You learn to develop thick skin as you apply for various programs thought out your career. It’s starts now. You will apply for various programs even as a Mid. Some get the yes and others get no. This goes for civilian life too. I know for most kids applying most have only been told yes. You are highly successful and have worked hard. If it’s a yes, celebrate. If it’s a no, give yourself some time to mourn the dream. Then give yourself a line where you turn your attention to Plan B. For those that reapply, give it some time. You will learn alot first semester about your self and you want to capture that in your essays.

Same situation. The stress is inevitable. Best of luck to you though and to all others

All is a go but the big x on medical. Hoping my son gets a shot at prep, if not I guess his path will lead him into civil engineering within the commonwealth of Kentucky.
Like all I sure hope he gets entrance to prove himself in the environment he loved at summer seminar and wrestling camp. If not well onward upward

Try to shift mindset to hopeful and excited for your future. Those that know you best - teachers, coaches, and all those that wrote your recs/SOEs - they thought you were worthy, and that counts tremendously. The rest is somewhat luck of the draw, so don't take it too personally if you don't get acceptances to your top choices. As valdictorian, and all the other stuff you did, you will have choices because you set yourself up well. It's a great position to be hopeful, and there is no rite of passage like checking your portal and in the frontal lobe always the question of whether an offer of appointment or not. Stay hopeful, not dreading.

Thank you, I tremendously appreciate this advice!

Yes. Our experiences suggest there is no reason to lose hope. Hang in there. Enjoy your family and friends. Stay motivated (physically) so when the appointment comes you will be ready to go. Rooting for you.
