Son got e-mail from USNA today saying his initial review has been completed but he needs to send in his first semester grades before a decision can be made. Bummer. More waiting.

Grades

Hi
The Air Force required my DS to provide them with 7 semesters of high school grades as well. It is all good!!

John

Question...

Vareporter: I'm curious, when did your son complete his application? My son's app has been in since Sept and his nomination showed up in the CIS early in Dec but he hasn't received any emails concerning 7th semester grades (or anything else, for that matter). Just seeking data - like everybody else! Thanks

My son's application was complete in October. His nomination letter arrived on January 10th. Maybe your son should be proactive and send his 7th semester grades in before they ask for them. It can't hurt.

I don't believe they send a letter. It's something you're made aware of as part of the application. If your son wants the appointment I'd get on it.

Been there...

VA & Kinnem - my son contacted his Admissions Counselor 2 or 3 weeks ago just to ask if he should submit the grades or wait until USNA requested them. He figured they'd want them, but didn't want to get ahead of the process and annoy somebody! His AC told him to go ahead and have the school mail in a transcript, and he had them send along some info about participation and awards received from the Youth in Government program last Fall.

What caught my eye was the phrase "an email saying his initial review has been completed" - that was outside of our experience and the first time we'd seen it mentioned on this board. At this time of watchful waiting, anything new or different sure gets your attention! As always, thanks for the info.:thumb:

I had my son show me the e-mail, and it said basically what I said earlier. The gist was the Naval Academy has conducted an initial review of your application and has deferred a decision until such time as we receive updated grades. I told him to get hot and get it done tomorrow. Watchful waiting continues. Good luck to everyone!

^^^^

The above is correct. For some candidates, USNA is uncertain/undecided whether to offer an appointment based on the initial review of the file. A strong or weak set of first semester senior year grades can make a difference in that decision. If you are in that camp, USNA should inform you of the request to see your updated transcript.
